I hope that this is not too stupid a question, but browsing through the forum (including the current survey for banned/unbanned users) has not cured my OCD-induced paranoia.

I decided to finally get around to poking around with my Switch yesterday. It was an unmodded 3.0.0 system; I used an RCM jig to send Hecate as a payload and then I used ChoiDujourNX to install the 5.1.0 firmware and enable autoRCM (after making complete backups of the system, of course). I booted into CFW, using the PreventGCUpdate option (which I since may have screwed up later by using an SX Pro, but that is a separate issue).

I then decided to try out the homebrew appstore. This, of course, meant connecting to the network. I did set DNS to block updates, but I do not believe that I configured any other network-related options. The appstore worked and I pulled down a few homebrew apps. I then shut down the system.

My Switch has not been online since then. I did not access the eShop, nor have I tried to install firmware updates using the built-in online updater. I have not used anything like Freeshop nor any other piracy tools nor do I really plan to do so -- if I ever do play a cartridge dump it will probably be from one of my own cartridges. I have booted into the SX OS since that time but, as I said, I have not taken the Switch online.

Could those few minutes online while booted into a CFW, even when not accessing any intentional online features like the eShop, have triggered a ban?

Possible you are flagged for ban, nintendo love to sniff consoles.
Just going online at all puts you at risk, or by using homebrew/cfw etc..

Just expect the worst. We don't know fully what nintendo has access to and what they use to flag for banning.
Just think that you're banned or will be banned soon. If you're not even after a couple of months, then congrats.
I've never activated wifi in my switch ever since i loaded CFW on there. It's been 3 weeks. So far from what I can tell, my nintendo account and eshop access is still active (via PC web browser).

100% you will get banned I tried to do what everyone says to not get banned ie aeroplane mode to which my bloody switch just did a game update on a NSP while I was in aeroplane Mode only and yes I got banned, just enjoy using your switch, i can’t go on line - nit even with real carts in OFW can’t go to the Eshop still can get game updates, but I will say I used my switch more then I have ever had in the last 4 months and I got it in day one, now I just leave the wifi on FTP when ever I want - for me there is not much online with ninty that grabes me, only game I played online was Mario cart but that was only now and then, plus how many systems do I really need to play fortnight or minecraft on, justbrniy playing your switch, just update to the latest OFW that way “things” just work when I read this or that dose not work nine out of ten times it is because they are not on the latest OWF, i just leave mine in XS OS mode unless I am copying a huge game across

Sadly nobody can really give you the correct answer since nintendo's banning method is pretty inconsistent. We've seen people just clearing their logs or played with homebrew only and got banned immediately while others has been pretty careless with cfw use and still not banned up to this day. But since you used a cfw there will always be a chance that you can get banned.

You're already banned. Like right now. Just for posting the question.

In all seriousness though there are dedicated threads for asking a simple question, as well as the discord.

If you're fucking with your console right now its not really a question of if, but when.

Tl:dr never go online. maybe you can avoid the hammer long enough for dev's to prepare for it.

Someone did testing with multiple Switches and got banned in every case, even when they just ran CFW while online and didn't pirate anything. You're probably getting banned.

I can access eshop on web browser aswell. But i'm banned so this doesn't mean anything.

By using CFW at ALL, expect to be banned. The only way to be able to play online Switch games/access eShop with no problems is to buy a second Switch. Even if you just go on eBay and get the tablet only for about $200, it's your only surefire way. Also, if you go the second Switch route, create a new NintendoID in case they ban your ID for using homebrew apps.

For those that have been running CFW for awhile now, it's only a matter of time before you also get banned. I ran across people that got banned the first couple of days of using CFW, but I lasted about a month without it despite me having used LayeredFS and DevMenu with NSP files...it still took time. So, just be aware that it's not a matter of IF you get banned, it's WHEN you get banned.

But I've been using CFW for almost 4 months and have had my switch connected to the internet almost all of that time and I'm still not banned :P

Lots of inconsistency in those replies, except for the doom&gloom.

If you didn't do anything that would trigger a online interaction with nintendo servers, and you are not sending any logs, then you are not being banned.
- Keep using the dns.
- Block *nintendo.com and *nintendo.net in your router or make a block tied to the switch's mac address, just to be safe.
- Don't update games online

Been reading that ban thread a lot, and the only telemetry i know that would get you banned on current latest firmware is clearing logs. The switch will flag that to nintendo and get you banned.
Remember that once a new firmware is out, don't update. Nintendo could have added another telemetry to look for homebrew/piracy traces, bypass the current blocks with a new server and ban your console.

Funny things is I did all that - so you could say a self ban - but the screenshots I took of my switch automatically doing a game update when I was in aeroplane mode only says other wise.
And yes I got banned, I don’t think it matters what you “try” and do no matter what system
Some one makes up you will get banned, the only way to not get banned is stay off line always then it becomes a self imposed ban.

Could those few minutes online while booted into a CFW, even when not accessing any intentional online features like the eShop, have triggered a ban?

After long hours calculating the odds of you getting banned or not from the info that you have provided, I found that you have 50% chance of getting banned. You will get banned or not, so 50% chance for each...

now the real stuff:
1- no one knows yet what are all the triggers that lead to a ban, maybe just by entering RCM once a flag could be set and someday you will be banned.
2- if you dont want any risk dont use CFW or homebrew.
3- just dont go online anymore and wait for news, i believe that some day we will have a way to play online with original stuff and safely play offline with other stuffses

That makes no sense, unless you went ONLINE. How can you receive a ban if you do not connect to Nintendo? How can you know if you are banned if you don’t go ONLINE? A game update does not ban you.

Don’t want to get banned?
-Don’t connect to the internet
-Don’t create/use a Nintendo Account on the CFW Switch.

(Protects against the Cylons as well).
