My best friend has never played a video game and they want me to find one they would enjoy. I asked them a bunch of questions to figure out what they would like. I'm gonna give you their answers and I'd love if you guys could think of any suggestions that fit the bill.
  • story over gameplay
  • puzzles over action
  • slow paced over quick paced
  • adventure over relaxed
  • 3d over 2d
  • no combat over combat
  • easy over any other difficulty
  • multiplayer over single player
  • versus over coop
  • cartoony over realistic
  • comedic over dramatic
Don't focus too hard on multiplayer aspects because they said they would play a single player game if someone would help them.

I would prefer it on Switch so I could bring it to their house but I also have any other Nintendo console (minus Virtual Boy).

Other than "multiplayer over single player," the Legend of Zelda series fits just about everything. Considering some of the qualifications, I'd recommend The Wind Waker (GameCube or GC-compatible Wii) or The Wind Waker HD (Wii U), but if we're talking about games for the Switch, then I'd recommend Breath of the Wild.

A friend of mine from China had never played a video game, and he loved The Wind Waker HD.

The Zero Escape or Danganronpa series maybe? Neither on Switch sadly but they do tick a lot of boxes. Sadly not exactly multiplayer, but they're the kind of games you can sit down with friends and work through together.

Journey on ps3 seems the perfect game then. Multiplayer, no combat, story driven etc. If you make a new psn account you get 2 weeks free access of psnow on pc and you can play it for free that way through pc

I would hardly call Journey story driven, but yeah, it does match up pretty well with the other stuff. Still, I don't think Journey is a good first video game. It's nice to look at, but it's very boring.

I just thought of a better one. deBlob. It's perfect except when it comes to puzzles, it doesn't have many. It's on the switch and deBlob 2 is coming later this month.

there really arent that manny multiplayer story driven cartony no combaat adventure games.

most multiplayer focused games barely have a story and even if they do they focus on combat alot.

i would just let him try a 3d mario game cant go wrong with that.
