I see possible CFWs, I see bans, I see multiple terms that seem to refer to file types, I see some possible piracy, a lot of information and news to sift through.

Highlights? Important issues? Upcoming stuff? Completed stuff?

I likely won't hack until we find methods almost as ban-proof as the 3DS is (using that term very loosely mind you), cuz I want to play Smash online, but still looking to catch up. That said I do have jigs ready.

SX OS cfw (paid) full piracy on switch.

Free cfw methods coming close but can play nsp (eshop) files with a little tinkering.

Emulators for everything prior to n64 running on switch firmware. Upto gamecube in linux

Ban can be avoided if your smart and don't connect to WiFi, people are reporting legit backups having no issues with bans but just speculation.

That's a brief brief overview

Thanks. Do you know the difference between XCI and NSP and why some say XCI is safer?

And I've seen some reports of bans even when staying offline, did they just mess up and connect one time? Though the tedious flashing of an unhacked mode does make sense, I can see making a new one every time I go from stock to hacks.

Xci are cart dumps, nsp are eshop dumps. Xci is better if you dump a card you rented/borrowed/own as there are file headers that a unique to every game cart. If you download an xci that's 1000's of people using the same header, which is alot easier to detect than just 2 people or even 1 if you dump your own.

I've only been online to update my xci games, I use SX OS and I'm still not banned, went on the eshop the other day to make sure and all OK for me, done this all on ofw, not SX OS firmware. I disconnect wifi the rest of the time. Online doesn't bother me as I'm not paying for online for less than a handful of games

Wait, paying for online? Is it game-specific? Because I don't recall paying to play Splatoon 2 online.

Playing backups of any form on your console will result in a ban if you play online. There isn't really any point in paying the $25 for SX OS anymore when XCI's (Cartridge images) can be converted to NSP's (installable packages) and installed using ReiNX. Not to mention many additional features that come with using an open source solution, like running patches SX has yet to have stolen and re-implemented. If you don't care about online, use ReiNX.

If you do care about online, don't use anything.

Paying for online comes into effect next month. Its been free up until now

Here's the price plans and it applies to every game apart from fortnite apparently

Oh, neat. Very affordable. I'm paying much more for PS+ right now. Though I will wait for Smash to start paying, I will still prefer to maintain my unbanned status.

Thanks for the updates. Now I guess I just watch for news on ReInx or Atmosphere. I'm not paying for CFW, that defies the point.

I understand, my experience with Nintendo online systems is that the player base dies quite quickly, hence why I'm more interested in games and not fussed being banned. If I don't get banned, that's a plus. Most of my games are ones I've borrowed off friends anyway or games I owned then sold when SX OS came out

Is this confirmed?
SciresM said best estimate for Atmosphere was August.

Nice. Has me hopeful. Any news on ability to mitigate likeliness of bans? Not sure what all those monitoring features actually monitor in plain english.
The "monitoring features" it has replaces Nintendo's built-in crash logs. It disables a lot of the telemetry from being sent to Nintendo. It probably won't save you from a ban if you're trying to play pirated games online, but it should prevent crashes caused by homebrew from being sent to Nintendo, so that does mitigate some of the ban risk.

In my opinion, the best way of mitigating the ban risk is to use Emunand with a separate microSD card for all your pirated content. Still waiting on a CFW to come out with Emunand support.

For the record, not EVERY .XCI can be successfully converted into a .NSP. But there's always CDNSP that lets you acquire .NSP files without need for conversion so
