Hi everyone, as soon as I press the power button, my PS3 immediately displays the RLOD and emits the triple beep.

If this is happening without the unit fully powering up, does this mean that the problem is serious?

Any advice or pointers you can offer will appreciated because this is not a field where I'm proficient.

Cheers!

U.

Sorry, it can mean... almost everything, from the power supply to the CPU (passing between the critical parts of the internal storage)

What specific model is it? The early NOR ones are known for "frequent" spontaneous corruption, for example

Update... I bit the bullet and bought another Phat. At least if I need parts in the future, the RLOD PS3 might be of some use. :)

Depending upon the firmware status, I'll either go straight to CFW on the replacement or Ps3xploit and then CFW.

What would you advise as the best way to get my PSN data/games off the "dead" machine?

Unless you created a backup of the eid_root_key with Rebug Toolbox (which doesn't need Rebug CFW, at least for some operations like this) or equivalent, sorry, you can't decrypt the HDD (hopefully you occasionally copied your saves to an USB drive)

Ok, I didn't copy my saves, annoying on my part but it's not the end of the world and it's a lesson learned for the future.

I came across a post on here that claimed CFW causes PS3's to overheat, especially the older models. Is this accurate or just scaremongering?

Another update, I got as far as successfully flashing the NOR on my replacement PS3 with the HDD method. Truly simplicity!

My problem is that when I attempt to download the CFW from the Rebug site, all I get is a tiny zip file with a text document and not the PUP file.

Am I doing something wrong here?

EDIT... I was able to access the .PUP through an alternate method and now I'm on CFW! :)
