so just jumped into switch hax today and amazed how far this scene has come in such a short time! Amazing work indeed

But I am curious, what is the potential of finding a luma-style permanent hack that is permanent? Has there been speculation or an explanation behind the technical hurdles with this? I love reading the behind the scenes info and would love to know what needs to be overcome for this :)

Firmware 1.0.0 might coldboot

2.0.0-3.0.1 also have a chance of getting coldboot but the chance is much smaller

4.0.0+ are likely either not going to get it or aren't going to get it for a long time

Coldboot pretty much allows you to do a "permanent" install of the CFW (until you update the system)

Install a trinket m0 inside and it's functionally pretty much coldboot cfw. If you want purely software then you will have to have a low firmware Switch and lots of patience.

Imo the "need" for a coldboot solution is pretty low, the moment you got everthing up and running you barely restart your switch. You can connect via FTP to copy new games (not perfect at this stage but it works) cause evertime you want to eject your sd card you have to reboot either way. Also, some kind of homebrew or cfw solution to use the internal sd slot as usb-mass storage would be more important since the Switch stand is pretty filigran and constantly ejecting and inserting the micro sd can also lead to failures.
Since it´s just a matter of plugging in your smarthone for a second when you want to reboot, for me the benefit of a coldboot exploit is not worth the waiting.

I'd still love to see a coldboot solution eventually.
Coldboot into Emunand on latest firm running Sysnand on 1.0.0 and a wafer thin 2Tb USB-C SSD strapped to the back would be my perfect scenario.

Luma's not a hack. Its a CFW/payload. That's like saying Atmosphere, ReiNX, or even SX OS are coldboots because they are loaded like that. The exploit is completely separate from the CFW. What allows Luma to be loaded as a coldboot is either A9LH or B9S much like how the CFWs for the Switch are listed are loaded as a coldboot thanks to Fusee Gelee.
