Hello:

I got my dongle today, and it worked great the first 3 times I booted up. I added some more backups on my card and went to boot up again, but I got nothing, and no green light. I figured it just needed to charge, so I used the USB cable they sent to charge it, and I'm getting a flashing red light but it won't turn green. I know it's supposed to charge after 5 seconds or so, but I got nothing even after letting it charge longer.

Anyone run into this? Could it be defective, or should I let it charge longer?

Thank you

Try letting it charge for like 15 minutes and see if that changes anything. Mine was behaving similarly and that fixed it

Ah interesting, thanks. I'l try now. It's getting a bit hot if it charges awhile...is that normal?

Gotcha, do I just need a USB A to USB C for that?

About as normal as a priest in an orphanage at 3am with lemonade .

Sorry for all the questions - Did the green light come on after 15 mins for you? Or was the light still flashing red or not flashing, etc?
Edit: After reading more carefully I might be wrong. Sorry, I don't know the state the LEDs were in.

Well, I think I had the same problem many times. That's most likely because you either ran out of battery or switched the console off from the menu normally, with AutoRCM enabled. I usually inject the SX OS payload and plug the console to the wall adapter as soon as I see the TX logo so it can boot up Horizon. If you can't do that, you'll have to wait for even longer apparently. For me it usually takes a few hours to charge at about 20% where the console then starts to behave normally again. Good luck, this probably isn't a brick though.

Thanks for the feedback.

Do you mean ran out of battery on my Switch? My Switch was at 100% (probably closer to 90% when the issue happened).

Also, I did not choose to enable AutoRCM, so that was off. The issue appears to be with the dongle. The light is blinking red when I charge it, and even after 15 minutes it wouldn't turn green.

Well I'm really sorry, I read that wrong. If it's not the battery and AutoRCM that caused the problem, I can't help you :(

THANK you to everyone who helped in this thread!

I ran to the store and grabbed a USB C/A to use the TegraRCM method from my PC. After seeming like it wouldn't work, I realized it was connected to a USB 2.0 port on my computer. Long story short, I was able to inject the payload just fine and I've got Homebrew, DevMenu, and Freeshop installed.

I did have to hold a funeral for a SX Pro dongle, but considering the SX OS license is $30, I'm only out $20 which I'm fine with. In another thread, I eerily predicted my dongle might break lol. A couple hours later it did. I actually feel more secure using the TegraRCM method anyway.

I would contact the seller for a replacement or a refund, the dongles shouldn't be failing that quickly.

I'm not surprised, all that power has to go somewhere, obviously something is faulty and instead of charging up the caps the power is being dissipated as heat. Maybe it's actually a faulty cap heating up or maybe it's a faulty chip. The caps can be relatively easily replaced as they are using through hole soldering, but getting into the dongle is the problem, apparently the plastic is fused together so you'd have to cut it open. I wouldn't suggest doing that except as a last resort, hopefully the seller will replace/refund it.
Many Chinese online stores/sellers are really good with refunds/replacements, often not even asking you to send back the faulty product, but this is console modding which is a bit dodgy to begin with, and all of TX' official retailers are either sites made specifically for the purpose or sites barely anyone has heard of and even fewer people have bought from, which doesn't exactly inspire much confidence.
