Not sure if any of you remembers, but years ago there was this exploit where you could obtain a hacked pokémon using an internet browser exploit. I did it one time. Will I be banned? XD

Nah, you should be fine. If you would have been banned you probably would have been already

@Quantumcat I figured out the issue... I guess the SD card I swapped to is faulty in some way because when I used the original SD card it's working fine. I guess I gotta either return the new SD card or try reformatting it again.

Test it with H2testw, it will show if it is faulty and you can use that for evidence to return the SD to where you bought it.

Maybe try SD Memory Card Formatter - SD Association. There was a time I corrupted a microSD with Win32DiskImager writing some debrick.img. Formatting under Windows lets me copy files onto there, but it wouldn't boot my Ace3DS Plus anymore. Using that tool fixed it. You may need to reformat again afterward to FAT32 32kb clusters for the 3DS.

Also, I heard Nintendo will now ban you if you have any pirated games since they can now trace it and perma ban you at a fast rate. Is there anything I should do to avoid that while still keeping my games and FreeShop?

Updating Luma first is better. Avoid using the eShop for pirating, such as sleep downloads and probably updates.

It doesn't matter which way around you do it, you just won't be able to boot your console when you have 11.8 + Luma 9.0.
Not sure about the banning problem. But there are some threads around about that for you to read.

Did you update your console? If you don't want to do an internet update you can do a CTR transfer to 11.2 instead, but it may wipe some of your data: https://3ds.guide/ctrtransfer

If you're running Luma 9.1 it is fine.

No, you would need to be on at least 11.7 and even that will stop working for online soon.

Guys, total beginner and there is a LOT of info in CFWs for 3DS, unlike WiiU which is very straightfoward. I read some but couldn't find a specific direction. Do I need a specific method for being able to play both 3DS/NDS backup games and also GBA emulation, or are these all possible through any method?

well freeshop is not recomended now because you can get banned for using sleepmode but if you are still on 11.7 you can still use freeshop just not on 11.8. The piracy dectector is only active when you INSTALL a game, not while playing it, so your games are fine just download games as cias with fbi.

But I have pirated games I installed before 11.8 was released. Am I safe since I installed them in the past and not on 11.8? Should I also just delete freeshop now, since I’ll be installing .CIAS?

sorry i meant the piracy only actives when downloading a game via freeshop (sleepmode) all the games you allready installed are fine so yes you are safe well i deleted freeshop but it depens on you
