Hacking Question Do I wait for a better exploit? Upcoming solution that won’t ban? 200GB SD card enough?

I have an unopened Switch, would I be better off waiting for a better exploit?

Is there talk of an upcoming exploit or update that won’t land you a ban?

I bought a 200GB SD card, is that enough for a lot of first party games?

Thanks

1. Probably not
2. You can never be sure, but it'll probably stay in the way it's now: Homebrew/Piracy = BAN
3. Yes. Most games are 5-20gb

Really, ok I’m not too concerned about online play but I didn’t have an issue waiting if a solution was in the works. If I get banned will I still be able to get updates for games, like bug fixes and not DLC?

What’s the best solution? Do I pay for SX OS, I don’t mind, or do I wait for alternative that is free and better supported, not sure if that exists.

I don’t understand the whole fuse thing but do I need to worry about this and which solution doesn’t impact this, if that matters?

1. Probably not, depend of your firmware, if you are low 4.1 you can wait for coldboot (pure software exploit) but we don't know when or how.
2. Emunand but again, we don't know when or how. And isn't 100% safe, probably 99%... but is like now you stay all the time offline.
3. I have a Sandisk 200GB with 30 games .xci .nsp (backup and roms...) and 30GB of free space in the sd and 20gb on internal storage.

1. There are different kinds of bans. One of them keeps you from playing online but still keeps you able to use the eShop and download updates etc. The other kind however, referred to as CDN ban, also bans you from the eShop and from downloading updates. If you don't use CDN downloaders that use your console's certificate though you're relatively unlikely to get a CDN ban.

2. I won't tell you my opinion on what the best CFW is right now because saying that in public usually ends in a civil war. I will however tell you that I own an SX Pro and am very very satisfied with it.

3. The only reason you would have to worry about fuses is if you'd want to keep your console on a lower firmware like 4.1.0 to be able to use other, yet unreleased, exploits in the future. More specifically, you have to care about fuses if you want to keep the ability to downgrade after updating to a more recent firmware. If you want a more in-depth explanation, I could give you one :)

Let’s say one has a CDN ban and are prohibited from updating their firmware the normal way, so they choose to update through a cartridge or through another method involving SX OS.

Could fuses be blown this way? Or did Nintendo strictly install this measure for downgrading only?

I'd imagine a fuse would get burnt with the install of the firmware.

Fuses are blown when you update and then reboot into the original firmware. Doesn't matter if you update offline or online. The way people avoid this is by installing AutoRCM and then exclusively boot into CFWs every time they reboot their Switch

Wow, really glad I asked this I had no idea it worked like that.

When you burn enough fuses, is the console useless?

I’m on 5.0.1 currently and haven’t installed SX OS yet. Would you advise I update to 5.0.2 before running SX Pro?

Also, do XCI files of certain games automatically update the system, or does it give you an option?

Thanks in advance for your help

Sorry you have a misconception about eFuses there. Basically, after most, not all, updates, your Switch will burn a number of eFuses, that's supposed to happen. So then every firmware has a specific number of blown fuses associated to it. You're on 5.0.1 right now, so I think you have 5 blown fuses now. Say you would now downgrade to 4.X, which usually has 4 blown fuses (not sure if these are the exact numbers but I just want to tell you how it principally works) , the Switch would then recognise that there is a too large number of blown fuses and would therefore refuse to boot.

Regarding your question about updating to 5.0.2, you might as well do so. As long as you're above 4.1.0 you won't be able to use deja vu, the unreleased exploit anyway. You could still do that update after running SX OS though, doesn't make a difference.

Game cartridges always ask you to update, they won't install anything automatically.

advice: get a second switch, buy an sx pro,use cdnsp gui bob, download all the nsps in the world. other options are too fussy, sx 1.4 with its nsp installer, xci support, homebrew menu and dongle are all 99% of us will ever need and drop dead easy to boot. you can work 10x as hard to piece together a free solution, but if you are a grownass adult with a job it isnt worth the time unless you enjoy fiddling around with all this for hours.

if you dont care about online or getting banned in general you can skip the second switch.

xcis fail to start if you dont have required firmware

if you are on 5.0.1 theres no reason to not just update to 5.1

fuses just act as a "cattle brand" that says you updated. you cant downgrade if the fuses indicate you upgraded. you dont run out of fuses

Ah I see - you’re right I totally had the wrong idea about how fuses worked. That’s also great to hear about the cartridges giving the option to update. Thanks for the help!

Gotcha. I ordered SX Pro a few days ago and didn’t want the hassle of the free route. I also never play online games, so as you mentioned I am just keeping the one Switch. I just wanted to make sure that I had all of my main concerns dealt with before I dive in.

Glad I can update to the latest before proceeding. Thanks for the info
