Piracy does affect game sales/hardware sales but no, it won't lead to an early EOL.
What it does lead to is hundreds of thousands of banned switches.
Atleast I hope so since cheat kiddies do not belong on multiplayer servers.

Not that I have much hope for Switch online games but I hope and believe we'll see fairly quickly how strict Nintendo will be with their bans once the paid service begins and if they DON'T deliver but allow cheaters to run wild I'm so ready to leave online alone and just hack the hell out of both my consoles. It's up to Nintendo.

You can't justify it.

I already don't bother with Nintendo anymore.
Wii/DS was their last good system really.

But seeing the amount of bannings for just piracy, I really hope Nintendo will be as strict as Microsoft/Sony.

If people still think piracy kills a system because of the dreamcast, no.
-You could burn blank CD's to play on the dreamcast, everyone had CD's and no one had to mod the dreamcast (early models)
-I know people that as soon as they hear mod or hack, they turn away from the idea.
-PS2 played DVD's, this was a huge nail in the DC's coffin.

3DS is still alive, although it's nearing the end of it's life naturally.
Switch is less than a year and a half old, it's pretty accessable for devs from what I hear and nintendo plans to support it longer than the average console.

Wii was an overclocked GCN with a bit of extra RAM.
Nah, Wii had some really solid games.

i know but wii motion controlls killed preety much 90% of the games with forced noone responsive motion controls, you have more solid games on gc and even n64 rather than wii, heck besides some 1st party games the wii is very very poor in quality third party games compared to n64 and gc.

There might be a few games I'd like to play with a friend but you can get them all on other platforms anyways.

3rd party games/multiplats, I got 360 for that.
Nintendo is a 1st part exclusive console to me.

The mote/chuck combo isn't to bad, unless you got polio and don't know how to move your arms...

yeah try playing Godzilla unleashed and then tell me, or basically any third party game with motion controls badly implemented as the only way to play.

while wii was the best selling home console it had the worst amount of good games even 1st party ones are very few.GC has many more worthwhile games to play.

Why would I do that when I can play superior versions on other platforms?

Nah, GCN and Wii are on the same level really.
3rd party on the GCN was good.
Still, Xbox knocked it out of the park every time.

Fucking Black <З

Whit this kind of studies you don't prove anything. If you take a snapshot of the actual situation AT THE MOMENT piracy is not leading so it is not hurting the consoles world, but if you spread a study like that it is like saying in a public place "guys have you heard that piracy doesn't affect production and console life at all? So don't worry about it" and after a couple years piracy will be the normality.

Someone said in a previous post in this topic "Continue to buy legit copies of your games so I can go on with my backups" , so if you are evaluating the actual situation, no piracy is not that exponential phenomenon thanks to people like me or you who buy games and we are the majority, but if the majority starts to pirate, than what happens? It is like warframe: I can play for free all the game and just farm thanks to people who spends money on it for platinum.

Oh and you cannot count a console success by only the number of units sold. DS and 3DS where a huge success for the pokemon saga let's be honest. Bu after you've played pokemon, mario, zelda and metroid, what are the choices? I feel like the Switch have had a good start with a noticeable differentiation in games. I just hope it won't be the usual Nintendo console with less then 20 interesting games on it.

The majority does not want to pirate.

I haven't been gaming for such a long time. Been mostly busy with sleep, hardware tinkering and checking GBAtemp frequently.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Hope you've had a good morning.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
It's going alright thanks :) I know what you mean with gaming time. It's precious where I can get it these days.

    How are you doing?

There's also this thing where I'm hyperfocused at night and cannot get to sleep.

    @Maximumbeans, I'm doing alright, thanks.

That must be rough. Productive I'm sure but hard to balance with daily life

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.
  • Maximumbeans @ Maximumbeans:
Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.

@Maximumbeans, I had a friend who had a glass chess set for their birthday.

It was like all clear and fancy. Tbf I'm not too experienced with chess, but would like to learn someday.
