So I just got banned yesterday and was thinking about buying a new Switch, but I really don't want to get banned again. I was using SX OS, but I own physical copies of all the games I like and was using them on that Switch.

Could I possibly get banned if I use these cartridges on a new Switch? They're 100% legit, but I was thinking maybe Nintendo could associate their cert with a banned Switch?

Oof, that's a good question. My gut is telling me yes, but since Nintendo decided to not ban your certificates, that could mean they don't know that console used them or they expect you to buy a new Switch to play them on anyways.

From what I can tell, Nintendo shows some degree of tolerance, including but not limited to not outright banning accounts.

So it's probably not going to get you re-banned if you play it clean. From Nintendo's perspective, a ban that 'puts someone on the straight' is a good end result.

Very interesting question. I doubt it because Nintendo doesn't want legit users getting buttsore because their Switch got banned from playing a second hand game they bought.

Ask Nintendo, all these quesitons are purely hypothetical. Asking will never give you a 100% guarantee in either direction.

I've thought about this too and for that reason I won't be taking certs from my existing carts and placing them in any dumps. I doubt they would ban your second console, but since I have two consoles, I don't want any indicators or flags set that could cause my legitimate console to become banned since I'm using a second NNID on my burner console.

This should answer the question...

Cart gets banned.
User sells/trades in banned cart.
Customer buys said banned cart.
Customer places banned cart in his full legit switch.
Cart either does not boot, or boots and does not allow online access.
(Unlikely) User contacts Nintendo, Nintendo replaces or re-instates cart. Costs Nintendo nothing, as the customer will have to pay shipping (since they paid no royalties to Nintendo for buying the game used). Nintendo receives banned cart, and changes cert.

If Nintendo did anything other than this, there would be a problem. Obviously, that last one may not be real.

I think this would be pretty crappy of Nintendo to ban those innocent people who bought "banned carts" second hand. That being said I would just try it with a different switch & account and if you were banned play ignorance.

Doubt Nintendo would ban a console for using a game cart.

Many examples, you could insert a friends game and they would lose another customer. Or maybe the person isn't a friend but insert a game in a switch and gets it banned even thought the owner of the Switch did nothing.

I highly doubt using a game cartridge will get a Switch banned.

However cartridge certs that have been used on thousands of Switches could be banned, a console loading it being banned is highly doubtful though.
