That's normal because it's injected with an out of region game.
Just launch it with squirrelboot.3dsx
Steeldiver is free from the eShop, I don't see any issues with using it
Same thing on freeShop. Steel Diver for USA, EUR, and JPN regions have all been pulled.
Edit - False alarm. Steeldiver (the first) is not found on eShop or freeShop. It's Steeldiver: Sub Wars (the second game) used for this hack. I jumped the gun reading tuudug's post and went looking to confirm the supposedly pulled game.

Enter steeldiver, one word, in the search box. Don't download the update, just the game.

Edit: this has nothing to do with finding it on freeshop, we're using steel diver in the context of userland sploits, so eshop is what we're talking about here.

One more question, what do actually do after installing steeldiver? The game is in japanese so i don't understand much of the stuff. I have done every other step.

Can't get the steeldiver game to load the homebrew, i have double checked all the files and saves from your link, but i end up with this 3 times now after installing and uninstalling, i disable wifi after installing the game to prevent updates

It would help to know what that error message says in English.

This usually means incorrect hax files on the sd card.
Is boot.3dsx on the root of your sd card?
Did you get the correct payload files in the steelhax folder?
Did you make sure to NOT download the game update?

I'm able to get to the homebrew menu from Steel Diver, following the guide, but whenever I try to launch a homebrew app, like Checkpoint or JKSM, it gets stuck on a red screen. I have redownloaded the boot.3dsx file a few times and made sure it's at the root of my sd card.
I also did not update steel diver.
All I want is a save manager (preferably checkpoint). Is there a version of one that will work with this entrypoint?
Edit: since I have the moveable.sed, can I just extract saves and then move them over to my CFW 2DS and decrypt them? (using godmode9?)

Homebrew apps can be unreliable, but JKSM tends to work without any problems for me. Are you using the version from https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-jks-savemanager-homebrew-cia-save-manager.413143/ ? Do you have jksm.xml in the same folder as jksm.3dsx?
I don't think Checkpoint works from the homebrew menu at all. Also note that the 3dsx version of JKSM is quite incapable of backing up Mii Plaza saves.

You can also use fuse-3ds to extract data from a NAND backup made using godmode9, including Mii Plaza save data. (But, again, you won't be able to re-import it using JKSM.)

Using fuse-3ds, you can do all the decrypting and extracting with a Windows PC, if you're so inclined.
