Hey guys sorry I know this is rather random but damn ....

There are lots of people complaining about how rude the people here got and yes it is true BUT lately I had to notice that this place is still very civilized compared to what is going on at other places oO


Usually I never watched any of these YouTubers because I thought and still think it is stupid how they can be "stars" for talking crap (most of them most of the time) but I stumbled across some guys that own Minecraft server (german ones) and they make vids how they "hunt" scammers and other idiots that can not behave, and seeing what some of those people try to do there made it even more clear to me, "humans suck" (sorry)

There are Adults and even Kids who steal from others, try to get real money from them, tell them they will ddos them if they don't pay money, even people asking other kids to steal from their parents.
And when they are found out and asked on ts or wherever they can't even say sorry and just shout the worst crap around that you could possibly imagine.

I am happy that I hardly ever experienced stuff like that ... got scammed a few times in games too when I was younger but never worse than loosing some worthless ingame items.



Not sure if this is something to be proud of but GBATemp still seems like there are mostly saints here compared to those people xD

Yet still a lot of people will only see the nintendo subforums loudmouths and assume GBAtemp is only made of them.
These kids really aren't representative of the community here, and it angers me each time I see someone on some place say "GBAtemp is this and that" and only pick from the worst without even realising there are better people that simply don't talk as much.

Right on.
The problem, however, is that a bunch of people will go on a social media and leave a comment such as "GBAtemp is full of shit" without any detail.
I remember I once caught someone being that way, and asked why, and I was insulted and told to fuck off.
Also I made sure to be nice, stating that it isn't necessary to trash the entire apple basket for a few rotten ones. Again, same reaction, "typical GBAtemp asshole harassing me again".
I gave up afterwards, fuck this person, honestly. I find it a bit frustrating that this attitude is very common. They only look at the toxic (and relatively self contained) side without any acknowledgement of how worse other places are.
I even had someone message me on Discord quoting something I said out of context, to insult me, and another one telling me that I waste my time in this community (ironically, the person is a fucking shitposter on Facebook).

Circlejerking is a tool that could be either powerful for a strong community, or a vicious circle that only spawns even more poisonous people. It's sad to see that circlejerking usually go to the latter.

My satisfaction greatly improved once I found out about https://gbatemp.net/account/new-content and deselected Switch and PS4, consoles I don't care about but are flooding the homepage (PS4 is especially bad due to having the same icon as PS3), would have done the same for Microshaft ones but those sections go slow enough I can actually read and learn something

Just as a nice side effect, I dodge most people who didn't even try doing their research, and the same people who formerly used "3DS Homebrew """Development""" and Emulation" as "your personal servants"

This is like one of the happy safe places on the internet. Sure, people here can be obnoxious sometimes, they’re people. But nobody’s really toxic. And anyone who is, they’re usually taken care of quickly. I really do enjoy this community and I’m glad there’s a place I can talk about games and stuff, and also get help with stuff if I need it. Or I can just stay in the EoF. Typically the second one.

its good to be offended sometimes, I feel gbatemp has the right balance of that though, when things turn into a steaming pile of crap its dealt with, but overall its usually pretty civil loudmouths and arsehole deserve a home too....just try keep your arsehole-ness to a minimum, I'm sure I'm an arsehole sometimes too

we try to keep the place convivial, with free speech. of course there are moderation and censorship, but we try to keep it to a sane level and not abuse power.
I don't know about the sanity level of other websites and social media, I don't frequent any. GBATemp is the only website I have time to visit and read. I guess it's a good thing I don't go to other forums and places? I wouldn't have time anyway.

Like you said, the wrong behavior is usually in the "current exploitable gen" (switch, ps4), but angry people will leave, the one who stay will be future of gbatemp's main and useful user base. (sorry for lack of proper english words)
people get angry when they get the same question over and over and newcomers don't read stickies. It's understandable, but not a good way to reply to people. it's only a problem in very active hacking sections. I think other sections have a good balance.
