Is it safe to update? Im using B9S.

Thanks
It's safe to update, I've tested and confirmed every CFW (Luma3DS, Rei-Six, and CakesFW) were not effected.
is it safe for update on A9LH?
Might I ask why you are still using A9LH? There's no risk involved with updating to B9S and you regain the use of all current tools and CFWs.

So, I was avoiding updating to the update in fear of some new security being implemented on tail of hearing how well switch is protected.

If the update is just bugfixes that is fine. One thing american posters or well, a lot of non-European posters would not know and I think is very sizeable chunk of the reason for this update seems to be nintendo's implementation of GDPR policies and my European Account, EUR console after update would notify about Privacy Policy updates.

So, along the possibility of some bug fixes the update mainly seems to be about GDPR.

Completely new to the 3DS scene. This morning my son asked me on my way out the door to make his 3DS like my ps4. So raises this question! As what I’m reading in the above posts, the latest CFW will install on this new OFW? This is of course a virgin 3DS that has only played legit carts.

Thanks in advance

Just go to https://3ds.hacks.guide/ and follow the steps listed there. You can softmod an 11.7 3DS for just $2 these days using the seedminer method detailed in the guide. If you have a compatible flashcart, you can use ntrboothax to do it. If you are willing to wait a few months, Smea is planning to present a few more exploits that will allow for completely free softmodding on the current firmware.

Already plan on using that guide. Thanks for the link though. Just making sure the -40 OFW didn’t break any of the current exploits.

Thanks for the fast reply. Will give it a go in the next few days

It's been such a long time since I updated to B9S that I don't remember anymore :P

How do I know which luma version I have? I tried clicking on the luma icon(I have two) on the DS menu but it happens a fatal error and my 3ds resets or request to press start.
I want to update to 11.7 but am worried to have an antique Luma... D:

Hold select while turning on the power (on most typical setups)
If it can run 11.6, it can run 11.7 - doesn't matter which CFW you currently use
