A bit of background. if I boot the DS with the flashcart in, it freezes on the "nintendo" splash screen. Other flashcarts work fine. The below pic shows where it freezes (I've tried kernel and new 5 sd cards)

Right so I've flashed ntrboot on my 3ds a while ago I didn't backup the card (like a noob) tried for a while to find another backup.bin and ntrflasher said flashcart not supported and so I gave up. Anyway today I made a breakthrough and found the latest version of ntrflasher (v0.4) worked. I could backup, restore etc. So I restored a backup.bin it restored successfully but the DS still froze at the nintendo screen.

I found another backup.bin online and went to try that. However now ntrflasher says that the card isn't supported anymore after a bit of time (if I eject the card at this point and try again it says "not supported" immediately, with the card in it takes a couple of seconds to say that.)

So have I bricked the card beyond repair because it is now no longer supported by ntrflasher? (whereas an hour ago it was.

That's the ntrboot log when trying to get to the flash menu. (I hit r4i gold bit initially before selecting r4isdhc family)

I do have a .nds backup of the card. I have access to a 2ns DS lite and 2 other flashcarts (DSTT and r4 revolution) I have CFW N3dsXL. Is there a way to bypass the checks on ntrflasher?

Check which card is yours against this list: https://3ds.hacks.guide/ntrboot

Go to Section V. Depending if yours happens to match revision and flashrom availability, you might able to restore it: https://3ds.hacks.guide/installing-boot9strap-(ntrboot)
Hi my card isn't on the list. I managed to get ntrboot onto it and flash my new 3dsXL with it. I managed to restore using ntrflasher.firm on n3ds but now the card isn't recognised by ntrflasher and crashes the DS lite on boot (with card inserted latest kernel etc etc)

I'm afraid you soft bricked your cart by accidentally restoring it using the wrong flashrom. I haven't seen an example of this being recoverable by normal or reasonable means.
