Wow I haven't been here in a while, college has kept me so busy I haven't touched my 2ds since november when I played a little bit of ultra sun. I don't have any custom firmware though I was thinking about getting into it before nintendo starting banning people. Obviously I'm not banned and I changed the spotpass settings so they wouldn't send data to nintendo or whatever, and I'm wondering if it's worth it to get into cfw? And from the looks of this video here I wouldn't have to spend $24 on a cartridge, that is if the seedminer exploit hasn't been patched.
  • The only app I used was PKSM, and the pokemon I have stored on there are nearly a decade year old.
  • I've been running *hax-based homebrew launchers with various exploits, the latest being soundhax.
  • Somehow my 2ds manage to update (!?) to 11.4.0.35u despite the fact it's been offline for probably a year, so soundhax doesn't work anymore.
  • Soundhax behaves differently than when exploits were patched. Whereas they would do absolutely nothing and leave me without my custom theme, I still have my custom theme and it does launch Homebrew launcher.
  • The launcher CTDs when it says "the homebrew robpin is ready." It would appear the issue is with the launcher, but I suspect a homebrew update wouldn't use soundhax as an entry point.
Is it worth it to have to change the entry point exploit every couple months when I'm just using one app basically or should I do the more permanent solution of cfw? Also, would someone be so kind as to direct me to the most accessible entry point in the meantime?

Soundhax DOES work on 11.4, what was patched out was the permissions to modify arm9, making CFW unusable while hombebrews still work. As for whether you should get CFW and how, update to 11.6 as it makes no difference (you WILL temporarily lost access to homebrews until you install CFW after updating to 11.6), buy a compatible DSiWare game and use the SeedMiner method, as it's the cheapest available one for 11.6. Finally, once you install CFW, back up your private local friend code seed and instead use a public one (use Google to find one as it's against the rules to post links to that on here). That way, if you get banned, your private seed is intact and you can either go back to using that one or just get another public one, meaning you are completely safe from system bans.

Are you sure? Won't it say "unable to be played" when you try to play the nedwill mp4?
soundhax was fixed on 11.4.0-37 but this guy's firmware ends in -35 so it might work if he gets the correct payload.
Cart updates don't update the sound app, which is what must have happened here.

Yeah it does load the hbl, it's the launcher that CTDs before it gets to the splashscreen. Do you know where I could find the correct payload? I haven't done this stuff in a while.

I suppose I could find an hbl version that works with 11.4, but would soundhax still work?

The correct payload would only get you into the homebrew launcher (if it works), it won't help you install CFW.

Yes I'm aware, I'd just like to get homebrew launcher working right now as it'll take me a while to figure out how to get CFW.

If you get CFW you'll have access to homebrew. I don't think it's really worth worrying about trying to get soundhax to work. If you really want to you can do some trial and error with different payloads, and you'll be on your own trying to figure it out.
Getting CFW, on the other hand, is incredibly straightforward and thousands of people have done it before you so there's loads of help to be had.

Here, try this payload
http://smealum.github.io/ninjhax2/JL1Xf2KFVm/otherapp/N3DS_U_27648_usa_9221.bin
(rename to otherapp.bin and overwrite the old one)

In any event, you should probably just use seedminer and get B9S + Luma. That way you'll never have to worry about losing homebrew again.
CFW is the way to go for homebrew these days.

I've come to realize that, and I'm doing a lot of research into it right now. It's much more accessible than it was when I joined 2 years ago. I wasn't ready to hardmod and solder when all I wanted to do was have a bootleg pokebank and maybe edit a few IVs lol.

Welp, sorry to break it to you though, but Pokebank and anything that runs on a server is impossible to pirate (the moment you connect to the server you will lose access to it along with ANY pirated DLCs on MOST of your other apps/games), but you can use PKSM's bank instead.
