I'm not vouching for vita but 200 gigs seems like a waste in a 3ds. Stick that thing in a PSP cuz their is for damn sure no Icon limit on them.
i have a 200gb in both my vita and 3ds and my vita already has plenty of psp and psx games to not waste time on a psp and 200gb is not a waste on a 3ds in the least but you want to try and make it look bad anyway you possibly can

Alot of people experience this man, why else would Clydefrosch have posted that.
Dbz legacy of goku, minish cap and boktai. Probably more. I think the issue is on larger sd cards.
i am aware of that issue, but as far as I'm aware, it is always fixed with the right reformatting of the sd card. dont ask me exactly why these things correlate though. i too have played minish and at least played around in boktai without screen issues.

The PSP has perfect PSX emulation but the 3DS has none at all (at least none that would be considered playable)
But the 3DS has a more correct resolution (400x240 so 320x240 games can be displayed without scaling for best clarity), whereas on the PSP you either get slightly blurry scaling or black bars on all sides.
I think the 3DS does a better job at older systems, in particular the PSP seemed to be lacking when it came to SNES emulation, and GBA wasn't the best either (mGBA on 3DS should be better), at least on a n3DS.
Also 3DS has a better game library.
If good PSX emulation is important to you then PSP is the obvious choice.

guys, you dont have to split hairs over the terminology, the truth is, the psp can play ps1 games and the 3ds only barely can play some at barely tolerable speed.
the psp emulation starting with snes is wonky at best, requiring loads of settings to be checked through and its still far from perfect for more demanding games. if you turn off sound completely, its usually good, but you probably want sound. the o3ds plays all but the fx games fullspeed (as so often, sound isn't always perfect, but its still better than on psp) and the n3ds just plays the entire catalogue.
gba required you to use 3 forks of the same emulator to have most games run playable on psp.
o3ds and n3ds have injection to run all games perfectly (once you disable the blurr effect nintendo thought should be brought over...), but gba emulation unfortunately isn't perfect either.
mgba works, but sound can reach earsplitting screech levels and speed will dunk all the time, because they try to go for accuracy instead of fps.
retroarchs gpsp shows that it can run all gba games perfectly if you're willing to ignore accuracy, however, whoever ported that core introduced a bug into his dynamic recompiler that will crash the emulator randomly, within 3 seconds or after 8 hours (usually within 10-30 minutes).

emulationwise, you're much better of with the 3ds. hands down.
decide based on wether or not you want psp/psx or 3ds games.

I was honestly joking, 200gb in a psp is ridculous. I have 128 in my GO and it was honestly hard to fill. 200 in a vita? How sway?

I have a PSPgo, and multiple 3DS consoles (all except the n2DS/n2DSXL) and I can honestly say that the PSP and 3DS has a completely different feel for emulation.

The PSP is actually the better choice, for emulators such as the PSone and games with higher visuals. Everything in respect to emulation on the 3DS, the PSP does a better job. While the 3DS is great for some things, if you've got the right model to play. The original 2DS is actually quite good for GBA emulation, to the point of the console having the analogue stick in a place where the d-pad would generally be for the GBA, making racing games a dream... Playing GBA racing titles on a flip-top 3DS (any of them) is just weird having the controls too far away from the screen (something the Switch doesn't suffer from in handheld mode). Though the PSP can perfectly emulate the GBA, so there isn't really much I can say about the 3DS, except the praise I just gave the 2DS... Although, the 2DS and SNES emulation is good if you've ever looked into the SupaBoy Portable console fro your portable SNES needs (but I'm going off topic).

The clear winner, is the PSP for everything. Although there are more 3DS users in the wild, the PSP was only really ever known for it's ease of piracy in it's day. However, the PS Vita and Nintendo Switch are two to be watched in terms of emulation. I'll be getting a PS Vita when I feel the time is right, but currently the Switch and PSP are the homebrew/emulation platforms while the PS4 is the main platform for non-emulation (although there are emulators available - it's just not a handheld).

Kanye west joke lol. I looked up 200gb ps vita and I saw something called psvsd? Is that it and did you install it yourself? The psvita might be my next move now. I had one a while ago and I bought so many games but ran out of space then got mad and sold it like a dip$#it.

Last time I injected gba games was like 5 months ago, if they fixed it that's great. I don't want to hate on the console just keep all the facts open. PSP is a very competent emulation option though. Snes and Gba have a select few games that don't work perfectly but for it's price tag it's a one of the best options. I bought a 3000 model for 40 bucks on ebay for my bro recently. The GO is more pricey but thats fine since its the most portable handheld out there (besides gba micro) and it can plug into your tv and connect a ps3 controller to act like a real PS1 among other things.

No lie, you just blew my mind. Later guys, I'm going to gamestop.

they unlocked different save types and real time clock and ways they are injected etc and I honestly never liked emulation on psp even back when I still used mine the snes is slow the gba has sound issues and lag here and there as well as having problems with videos and its basically IS a ps1 the psp and ps1 have very similar architecture allowing it to run like a ps1 same way 3ds run ds and gba

I find it funny to read about uber setups and GBA emulation, I get emulating home consoles like the SNES, but for GBA...just get a real GBA and ezFlash Omega or Everdrive GBA?

There was a dark period where you had to track vintage Ezflashes and vintage 2GB-top miniSDs, but nowadays...real GBA (or modded DS Lite) plus modern flashcart+microSD is the way...

I have a feeling that a lot of people here are a bit nostalgia blind regarding the PSP.
The SNES emulators have a ton of screen tearing.
The only way to minimize it is to turn on VSync, which drops games to 50 FPS and lower.
Not a good experience, and there's still screen tearing at the bottom of the screen.
I've read that the NES emulators have it too.
GBA seemed relatively fine though.
As for the N64 emulation, it usually can't run SM64 at full speed without dropping frames.
Also has screen tearing, though it's usually not as big of a problem like with the SNES emulators.

That's the thing. Nostalgia is dismissed too easily.

Fact is, those things we love so dearly from our youth or formative periods or whatever - - most of it isn't all that. No one will ever love that Penicillin on Wax LP as much as me because they will never be 19 year old me. Our media collections are full of 'underrated' stuff because actually a lot of it isn't underrated - 92.874% of everything we hold dear to our hearts won't ever mean jackshit to anyone else because nostalgia dominates our critical faculties and tastes to an almost all-encompassing degree.

Its ALL about nostalgia.

no. that is just plain wrong.
The only thing where the psp outdoes the 3ds in 'emulation' is for psx games. they were equal for nes, gbc, genesis, megadrive and the other weaker consoles.

but gba required you to use 3 different versions of gpsp, all of which couldn't play all games (some would just not start, others couldn't display graphics right, they almost all required frameskips and sound was crackly at times) and even then you'd be left with the odd game that wouldn't work well in either.

and snes had similar issues with sound, screen tearing, having to go through countless menu settings for every other game etc.
not to mention the thing where anything black on screen would leave a shadow trail on the older displays.

for its time, the psp was as amazing as it got and the later ones with some more ram slightly improved some things too.
but the 3ds and the n3ds most of all, blow the psp out of the water here.
better screen resolution doesn't matter with these low res consoles.

and i honestly can't follow your logic with needing the control stick next to your screen i guess... that sounds very objective

uhm no :P
there are objectively supremely good games with timeless game mechanics and graphics

what I believe is people who emulate (when mostly perfect emulation isn’t available) are more about nostalgia and people who use native games + official first party emulation + injects are more about experiencing what’s good about the actual games

so my take about this thread is that it would take years, both on psp (including PSone) and 3DS (including DS, VC and VC-injects) before I’d have to resort to homebrew emulation

so the answer to “who’s better at emulation?” for me would be “no.” :D

I clearly love the PSP, but if anyone has done any extensive emulation testing on both consoles you would notice that.

1. 3DS looks better for archiving with all the games on the home screen or separated by folders and systems.

2.The aesthetic of loading and saving within the VC is just mad professional and meant to be.

3. Crashes, errors, messing with settings to improve framerate. Virtually (see what I did there) none of these are problems on the 3ds. Although crashes can happen, it's very rare.

Simply put, old nintendo games are at home on 3DS. But if all you want from Nintendo is there classics and don't mind slight compromise. If you want a super compact portable that has a more hardcore and challenging variety of games that easily holds its own when compared to the 3DS library. PSP GO is your boy. Relax 3DS has an amazing library too, it's just more chill and forgiving.

One handheld console to rule them, that's what handheld emulation is all about. Say you fly out somewhere boring as hell for a week or 2. I don't want to be stuck with just GBA or whatever. I want them All in my pocket. There are emulators that come very close to close to perfection and some even surpass there emulated console. N64 is a perfect example. My phone runs banjo tooie like jusain bolt but my on my n64 it feels slow as hell. As if it was forced to be somewhere it shouldn't. Emulation is the future, get N64 or get Out broooo

The only thing the PSP is better at is PSX emulation (for obvious reasons) and barely-usable N64 emulation. When it comes to emulating everything else the PSP could, the 3DS does it better thanks to official Nintendo emulators or heavily optimized homebrew.

People are looking at the PSP through rose-tinted glasses because it was the best option available for a very long time.

The only thing where the psp outdoes the 3ds in 'emulation' is for psx games. they were equal for nes, gbc, genesis, megadrive and the other weaker consoles.

For the 3DS though, some emulators are still kinda buggy. Which you'd think that with Nintendo releasing SNES and GBA games on the eShop, someone would have made an injection tool already, like we had with the Wii in 2008.

but gba required you to use 3 different versions of gpsp, all of which couldn't play all games (some would just not start, others couldn't display graphics right, they almost all required frameskips and sound was crackly at times) and even then you'd be left with the odd game that wouldn't work well in either.

not to mention the thing where anything black on screen would leave a shadow trail on the older displays.

The PSP all comes down to the model being used, because they weren't all made evenly. Where most people had the PSP-1000 (myself included), the PSP-3000 is actually the better model, with the PSPgo feeling obscure with the slide screen/controls. However, less about the aesthetics and more about the performance. The first three models of the PSP used a dodgy memory card, the Pro Duo cards were horrible and let the systems down badly. While the PSPgo, got the M2 card as it's external source of storage which improved the quality of some of the emulators (though the PSPgo has the smallest screen).

and i honestly can't follow your logic with needing the control stick next to your screen i guess... that sounds very objective

It's just somewhat pleasing, to have the controls near the screen with GBA emulation because that's where the controls were on the original GBA (the SP had it's controls too close together).

Then for anyone who's played a SupaBoy, it's also nice to have the controls at the side (with less bulk because of the cartridge slot).

Which the 2DS is the best console, plus it has a better battery life than most 3DS revisions. I thought the 2DS was garbage when I first saw it, but then is soon became apparent that it's actually the best model for playing emulators (plus games that don't rely on the 3D).

PSP GO is the best portable device for emulation.

Thanks to SONY adding 16GB storage and changing the memory cards to M2, since SONY thought the M2 cards would throw people off because of the popularity in the Pro Duo cards. But it backfired on SONY when the console was hacked in just under five weeks of it's release. :rofl2:

um what there have been injection methods forever hell just look up "New Super Ultimate Injector for 3DS"

the bottleneck of emulators wasn't memorystick speeds it was the cpu itself
