Nintendo Files Trademark For N64

n64 classic.JPG

After the wild success of Nintendo's classic console rehash in the form of the NES Classic and SNES Classic, many fans were wondering when, rather than if, the House of Mario will release its next classic console: the N64 Classic. Well, the latter might actually become a reality!

As spotted by JapaneseNintendo, a Nintendo 64 trademark was applied by the Big N, including video game program, controller, joystick and TV game machine and more. While this by no means confirms that an N64 Classic is on the way, as companies usually renew trademarks to protect their IPs, there have been a few hints that the N64 will be next in the Classic line. Commercial success of the NES Classic and SNES Classic aside, last summer Nintendo filed a graphical trademark for an icon depicting the N64's three-pronged controller in a style very much akin to the NES Classic logo. Coincidence?

The application also makes several mentions regarding downloadable software, in particular mobile ones. As such, it could also be pointing towards future Nintendo-branded mobile phone games.

So what do you make of this news? Is Nintendo preparing for the eventual N64 Classic? Or is the company planning something entirely different, like an N64 Best Of compilation for the Switch? Share your thoughts below!

I've held off on getting both NES and SNEs classic as my 3ds and psp go both do a good job emulating both systems. Along with my other hacked consoles.

But I'm very hopefully that they come out with a N64 classic, so many great games. Although I think my biggest issue was a lack of Rpgs for it. Quest 64 was pretty fun but apart from that, I can't really think of any.

They filed a trademark for the GameBoy and the N64 controllers eary last year, too. After the success of the NES and SNES it's inevitable.
I wonder how long they can keep it up, though. The various Gameboy generations and Gamecube can all be played in a number of ways already, and just about everyone has a Wii gathering dust on a shelf somewhere.

If it ain't got Pokemon Snap and Pokemon Stadium, then I DON'T CARE :hateit:

But really, if the emulation is actually decent on this thing (and it actually exists, of course :P) I might actually buy this one, since as mentioned N64 emulation is pretty ass for the most part.

I'm not excited. I believe that this classis/mini consoles are the main reason we don't get a proper VC on NX and while I'm excited about getting new SNES and NES controllers made by Nintendo I'm really not excited for N64 controllers. They just weren't that great right from the beginning. I just wonder if they release a N64 mini if they will release controllers faithfully to the original and still have fixed the easy to brick analog sticks or how they went with that .
Anyway I'm pretty sure the N64 will be the last Nintendo homeconsole to get a mini/classic at least for a couple of years, the NGC library just was to complex to reduce to just 20-30 games and was all‑in with getting cross‑plattform titles. On the other hand N64 already is problematic with Rare beeing owned by MS (the SNES mini/classic not even had all three DKC games, N64 with only one or two Rare titles... idk).

I expect Conker's Bad Fur Day, lol never going to happen.
im preety sure no rare game will be on n64 besides donkey kong 64 and diddy kong racing(with 2 removed characters banjo and conker like the ds remake) since those nintendo has the full rights.

every other rare n64 game microsoft putted on rare replay so they arent letting nintendo make money on their games that they actualy have a release on xb1

so no conker, goldeneye, banjo, jet force gemini, blast corps, killer instinct games at all.
