Hello everyone. My 3DS modding was limited to Gateway up to recently. I swore by Gateway until they stopped making updates. I waited patiently but I think it's safe to say they are done. I did a little research and I have seen that there have been a lot of advancements in the 3DS CFW world. My 3DS Sysnand was firmware 4.5. I reformatting my memory several times to remove the Gateway Emunand since I read that Emunands are now irrelevant. I followed the steps on 3ds.guide for my firmware version and all that happened was three black box icons appearing on my 3ds. Also I don't believe all the things installed correctly. When I start the console I can boot the luma menu however I couldn't access homebrew launcher or any of those things to install FBI and what not. I updated the console thinking that maybe since Luma is installed I would be able to proceed further on 11.6. However upon updating those three black box icons are gone and now I'm stuck on how to proceed further and install FBI or make sure that everything is installed correctly. It still can boot Luma on startup, however I don't have any idea what to do next or how to fix this. I also have a backup of my 4.5 sysnand. Anyone want to help with this complicated ass case?

I believe so. However you could probably inform me as to how to check. I fooled around with it a little more, and I have access to GOD Mode, and I managed to use Rosalina to boot Homebrew Launcher to install FBI as well as FreeShop. However I'm fairly certain things are not installed smoothly or correctly.
install a cia version of FBI, what you find that isnt installed correctly or smoothly?

There are a lot of misc files on my SD card and I really don't know what is what. I followed the directions from 3DS guide, but the Freeshop doesn't work correctly. I was trying to troubleshoot the issue but I couldn't come to a conclusion. My nand had also previously been split because of the Gateway and I am not sure if I have to do more than just formatting the memory to get rid of the emunand. I'm thinking the best thing to do would be to restore my sysnand 4.5, delete any emunand that may exist and start fresh from there with far more reading and more careful guidance. Does that seem like a viable start?
Unless you have like a bricked nand , it is just unnecessary, when your 3DS boot, does it says SYS under setting? and can you boot into Luma Config menu, you cant use gateway with CFW on 11.3 and above if I remember correctly.

I think I have finished doing the finalizing setup. I attached a picture of what GM9 is showing me. It shows Emuand CTRNAND 755.6. Does that mean that there is still an emunand on my console? Also what is NTR CFW and what does it do? I am sorry for being such a noob. It's just not easy to find all of the pertinent information in one place.

Seem like you created an emunand partion, maybe you created one in the past, it is just on the system.
Okay, so I can definitely confirm there is an emunand. Holding Select and then pressing the Power button boots Luma3DS booted from SD via B9S. Holding home and then power boots into the Emunand 4.5. Holding Start an then power boots GM9. Ideally what I truly wanted to do was have my sysnand on 4.5 and then an emunand on 11.6, however that seems quite pointless right now plus my 4GB standard sd wouldn't have enough memory for games like Pokemon Ultra Moon.
Nobody use 4.5 these day, you can just delete the emunand and just use sysnand instead, the thing is if you really gonna update then maybe do a CTRTransfer to like 9.2.0-20U just incase if you want to have a way to recovery if you mess up emunand. Benefit of using sysnand is that if you want to upgrade to a new SD you have to set up a new Emunand , doesnt work by just copying stuff around.

I have a Kingston Micro SD adapter with 16GB in it. Is there anyway I could use that as my SD card. When I put it in, it can't be read.
Well the emunand wont be recognized by it, 3ds SD card has to be formatted FAT32 with with 32kb cluster,

On Luma Config menu, "Show Nand or user string in system settings has a X through the ( ) right?

Well in the Nintendo 3DS folder on your SD card you probably have two folders with a lot of #, what you can do is delete both and let the 3DS set up a new one, and then reinstall FBI through the Rosalina menu, that way you can upgrade to a larger size SD card. Unless you are able to find out, which one is emunand.
