Chrono Trigger PC port gets update patch to fix battle UI

After an announcement that excited, and very quickly let down, fans, Square Enix released the classic SNES title Chrono Trigger on PC. This led to public outcry when people realized it had just been a port of the mobile version of the game, with multiple issues being found with the graphics and UI. Square Enix promised they would patch the game through the coming months, and they did come through when they patched in the ability to toggle the original non-remastered graphics. Now, the company has addressed the UI complaints, and have changed them to be less out of place like they are in the mobile port, and they now look more akin to the original game's UI, at least during battles.

  • A new battle user interface (UI) has been added based on the look and feel of the original CHRONO TRIGGER.
  • An option has been added to select between the UI optimised for controller/keyboard mentioned above, and the current UI optimised for mouse & touch panels. This option appears in “settings” in the main menu.
  • The game can now be paused during battle by using the pause button on controller, or the Space bar on the keyboard.
  • Adjusted the look of playable characters on the world map to be more in-line with the original version of CHRONO TRIGGER.
  • The resolution of animated cut-scenes has been improved.
  • The display area of animated cut-scenes has been increased.
  • Fixed instances where the game slowed down during certain scenes.
  • The Korean font has been updated.
  • Other small bugs are fixed.

A pause function has also been added, along with a few graphical and resolution improvements. Here's the original UI:

And below is the new UI.

I hope the font don't get smaller.

One more game with small font and I'm gonna break my tv! :hateit:
Have you tried the new GoW? This my only complaint so far for the game. Honestly, I've had enough of sitting a few meters from the TV to read normal text. The game is tied with Pillars of Eternity II for the game of the year 2018, but loses simply due to the font size..

OT: finally. The mobile UI is the reason everyone commented on the game. Sure it's nice to have as an option, but it was horrible for m+k as an only option

Welcome to my world. I don't know anymore if I should get binoculars to replace my glasses or if I should install a bonafide Cinema to play games in my home.

No, haven't gotten the game yet, but I did play Monster Hunter World which has the same damn problem. Yeah they patched it to have bigger font but still is hardly a change to me. Little better i guess but I mean Xenoblade Chronicles X on wii u is the worst. What kind of people did they expect to play with font so small? On a tv right sitting on a couch like 3 feet away from it right? Not some pc monitor that you have to sit close up to and ruing your eye sight. :wtf:

That was the reason I bought a 55" TV. Damn Xenoblade X. Still had to sit next to it.

Honestly I was excited about playing the game but couldn't get immersed in it with the font problem. Sounds dumb I know but I also feel like I haven't gotten my $60 worth. :P

I'm just saying that the dev teams dressing their monitors up in magnifying glass assessors that everything just seem too big or they must have perfect eye sight. I wear glasses to see far distances. I can't enjoy a game that requires reading and that is the main challenge. Least for chrono trigger, I don't have to understand the plot cause I already know it but still, I don't want this problem if they plan to do console ports to ps4/switch in future.

I thought I was the only one...I can't even play most games unless I want to sit a few inches in front of the screens. I guess developers test on computer monitors or something.
