Gunvolt Chronicles: Luminous Avenger IX Announced for Nintendo Switch

Inti Creates recently announced Gunvolt Cronicles: Luminous Avenger IX, the next game in the Azure Striker Gunvolt series at the BitSummit 2018. The game stars the anti hero of the series Copen, in what seems to be set in a earlier time before the events of the first game. Anyone who has played Azure Striker Gunvolt 2 will instantly recognize his gameplay and how much different it is to Gunvolt. If you have yet to try the previous games in the series, you can do so by purchasing Azure Striker Gunvolt Striker Pack for both Nintendo 3DS and Switch which has both first and second games available in one purchase to try before this game becomes available. Gunvolt Cronicles: Luminous Avenger IX is currently in development.

i was interested until i saw it looks like an ASG2 expansion pack on alpha state, if they are gonna reuse graphics made for the 3DS then why not just make it for the 3DS? im starting to get the feeling that bloodstained is draining too much cash out of them so they are trying to pluck financial holes with quick games

Both games was a $15 download only until they found a publisher to put the game at retail. Is not really meant to be a huge title game, but a indie status game. I can understand why you feel that way, but the games inti creates releases was always small games unless funded by a publisher, but the quality of them is good I assure you, I have reviewed both Blaster Master Zero and Mighty Gunvolt Burst on switch which is $10 download with very inexpensive dlc additional characters, which further provides my point. :)

i've been a fan of them since megaman zero, i've played every single game they've made and loved most of them, ASG2 was an amazing game, but this just looks like a lazy mod of that with a fancy (read: overcomplicated) title

Well is not ready to release, so when the release trailer comes, it could be vastly different in both name and how it plays. (I won't account for the graphics since is probably not gonna change, it's probably already established as so.) Besides if you like the game that was successful, why change what isn't working right? (stare at 6 mega man games on nes) :P

the problem is that what inti creates i known for improving on working formulas, the problem here is that this seems more like mindless copy pasting than it does something improved, granted, this reaks of alpha build, so maybe they are just using 3DS graphics as place holders (though there are some new graphics, so maybe not), but it really just seems like they took half of AGS2 and made more of it, which wouldnt be a problem if it was on the platform it was developed for (the 3DS, thats why sprites on the switch look so pixelated) instead of a console with a 720p screen where those same sprites just dont look as good.

that and the name just bothers me, wtf does IX mean? why do they need a title, a subtitle and then a roman numeral that makes no sense

EDIT: just realise that even though this is supposed to be a prequel to AGS1, copen is using his AGS2 suit, so it must be a placeholder sprite

Can't really answer all the questions, so far all I know is it's in development and more details later. If the details don't satisfy you by the time the game is ready to publish, then I guess that would be when you are ready to make your decision. :ninja:

Sorry it's not making you as excited.

its really a shame, besides megaman zero 3, i think that AGS2 is inti's best work, even better than megaman ZX advent, mighty gunvolt burst and MMZ 4

EDIT: extra shame since i honestly think copen is a much better character and has a much better playstyle than gunvolt

Inti killing it like always. People ignoring it says "now in development," not "releasing next week." Looking good so far IMO.
why announce it then? i mean, if its really mostly place holder graphics, why show them? see what i mean with them being a little short on money?

All I'm saying is the game is gonna be a $15 eshop download title, if the game was more than that, I am sure it wouldn't look like this. As I mentioned already, this series never was meant to be a big title, look at shantae half genie hero, $20 game and it looks the way it does, before that was Shantae and the pirate's curse, it was the same $20 price and look just like the game before that. There is only four shantae games to date, as well as two gunvolt games with this one coming soon.:ninja:

of course its not gonna be a 30 dollar game, but i really have to wonder if the only reason they are making it for the switch and not the 3DS is because they dont want to spend money on optimization and this is just a cashgrab, im worried because it honestly sounds like a good idea, hell, i personally think that copen is a much better character than gunvolt in both story and gameplay, but pumping out a dull game for quick money isnt the way i want this character to be treated.

Would you feel better if it was on 3DS?

partially, because it would show dedication, but a new player sprite would show me that they actually care and arent just making a new game reusing assets of the older titles for money, hell, at least change the enemy sprites or something, so far the only new spirtes are that mid boss they showed and even then it looks like one of the tank mechs's sprites modified to look different.
im not salty about it not being on the console i played the previous games in, they'll probably port this to PC (if the update to AGS1 on PC they just released is any indication), my problem is that they are reusing sprites of a game meant to be played on a 240p screen and showing them on a 720p screen, it just doesnt look right, in the switch remasters its understandable because they are ports, but if this really is a new game and not a quick standalone expansion pack, they could at least use the power of the switch for something besides not having to spend time optimizing.
if you still dont agree, think of this, did they change the sprites for most stuff in megaman ZX even though a lot of the designs were really similar and the resolution wasnt even that much bigger? they did, because it was a game of its own

Well it's in development, and they didn't announce it for anything but the switch. We don't even know if it will be on the 3DS, maybe it will or will not. We just have to wait ans see what happens.

Lol it's not hard to optimize a 2D game for 3DS. I wouldn't be surprised if it's announced for 3DS later, and if not it's because this game will be released close to the end of 3DS' lifecycle (early 2019 perhaps). Eventually you're going to start seeing a lot of indie games that could be on 3DS but aren't because no console is guaranteed lifetime support, at some point we have to move on. Most games benefit from Switch's 720p screen greatly anyway, 2D or no.

you clearly havent tried making a game in your life, first of all, ASG was never truly 2D, it always used 3D effects for a variety of things, specially with the shit around copen during combat, speaking of which, having so much stuff, with such high res sprites and at a mostly stable 60FPS is FEAT of optimization, the 3DS is not the most powerful system, specially since its hardware is optimized for fast 3D graphics (to complement the 3D screen) and not fast 2D graphics.
