CiaGenerate: create retail, homebrew or DSiWare CIAs easily!

Hello everybody!
I'm XorTroll, and I'm currently under the development of this quite useful tool.
It is able to generate the CIA (CTR Importable Archive) of a ROM you open with.
The ROMs can be:
- NDS or SRL (DSi ROMs, but looks that the new building method can load also DS ROMs)
- 3DSX (homebrew ROMs)
- 3DS or CCI (retail cartridge ROMs)

Actual version: v0.4 (beta 4)

Change Log:
- [Main change] The DSiWare building has been completely remade. For the moment, only 64bit Windows support it.
- Some design changes, and other minor bugs.

I must remember you that this is a beta release, so it's features are still not officially stable, and might not work in several times.

Repository: https://github.com/XorTroll/CiaGenerate

Useful, yeah?

I tried to use the tool but it complains about required executables not being found, any reason why?

IMPORTANT BUG!

I just deleted ctrtool from the required executables, but the program still requires it, so it gives that error. I'm fixing it right now.
Sorry for it!

Alright, I've been making some tests with a friend of mine, and it seems to work correctly now.
Go and download it into releases page!
Sorry for making you wait :)

I mean those ROMs which only work with DSi, which cannot be loaded on some emulators and on old DS devices. I've tried encrypting DS ROMs, but they cannot be converted. I've also tried doing it with ROMs I made using devkitPro and, surprisingly, they worked (I don't know why)

I have updated the program to 0.3 beta version.
It's been remade using Haxe, and looks pretty good.
You can download its Windows version from GitHub. Check this thread's first message.
Also, a Linux version is coming!

Beta 4 is now released. For the moment CiaGenerate is only available for 64bit Windows, but I'm working to make 32bit also available.
Now, it seems that you can also load NDS ROMs into a CIA. It's still experimental, but it seems to work.
Enjoy it!

How does the NDS support work? Is it using nds-bootstrap?

I mean that not only DSiWare exclusive ROMs work, because I found a patcher command-line program which creates a "DSi" version of the ROM. So, basically, I've tested it with NDS ROMs like MKDS and they seem to work. But I must remember you that it's still experimental.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way
