So this patch lets you play the US version of Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks with mostly non-touch based controls. The new control bindings are

Control Bindings:
  • D-Pad=Run
  • Y+Dpad=Walk
  • B=Wide slash
  • B+Dpad=Long slash
  • Y+B=Spin Attack
  • A=Interact
  • A+Dpad=Roll
Things that were originally bound the the D-Pad such as bringing down the map can still be accessed using Select + that direction. Some stuff like equipment will still have to be used with the touchscreen.
Here's a short demo of the new controls being used:

I've made as you said, and the building went fine, but if I start the game it boots, shows the copyright information and then I get a black screen.:(
And remaking the patch from scratch, even with the sourcecode, is way out of my knowledge.

Well it was worth a shot but it was still a lot to hope for. It's not necessary to remake the patch from scratch only to find where the functions the patch is referencing were moved and changing the ".org"s and "bls" etc in the sourcecode. Even for US to EU everything only shifted around about 32 bytes. I can't really do this right now though since I don't have that version of the ROM and I'm focusing on another project right now.

If you need the ROM I can PN it to you or if you have a hacked WiiU you cann dump it using ddd. It's exactly the same ROM I dumped from my cartridge. ;)
But because you are now focust on another project that can wait. :)
If you finished that, then you can look at your sourcecode and what can be done. As of now, I wish you the best luck for your current project.:yay:

With Greiga Master's patches you have the option. You can play with or without touch controls at any given time. I found that great. Much like Animal Crossing on the Nintendo DS. That game I played frequently with touch and with buttons. Touch is good for one handed play.

Does anyone have a more "in depth" guide to patching this? I've fiddled with xDelta UI for a few hours now to no success.

For anyone who's having the same problem as I am, this patch requires you use a specific dump of the ROM that doesn't match the best current no-intro sets. It worked for me when I found one titled "4527 - Legend of Zelda - Spirit Tracks, The (US)(M3)(XenoPhobia).7z".

You should be able to force off the patch verification -- the old dumps are usually just fine but various dumping groups noted that with the rise of DSi (and then 3ds) whitelists a previously assumed to be blank area of the header was used to hold some extra signing data. https://hackmii.com/2010/02/lawsuit-coming-in-3-2-1/ for the curious there.
Said data is never seen by the game and is of no use to anybody doing emulators, flash carts, cheats, building flash carts, building emulators... basically anybody that is not replicating the firmware level flash cart/dupe detection of Nintendo on the DSi and 3ds.

Like older systems where redumping/verification is quite necessary some games did see bad dumps, some games did see dumpers fiddle with things (my favourite was some groups took to compressing things inside the ROM that were not compressed to begin with, though intros, disabling anti piracy, negating extra addons and more all happened, often without a patch) and those games that got DSi enhanced dumps did not at first get the DSi side of things dumped too, and not sure what goes for third versions from Wii U downloadable emulator efforts go at this point but that is also an option. However for the most part the super pure no-intro favoured stuff ( http://www.abgx.net/filename/?ch=5 http://www.abgx.net/nds_releases_date.txt , usually dumped by PUSSYCAT) is the same in every way that matters and only really serves to confuse people.

I can confirm, patching a EU rom for D-Pad support and playing it with them in Twilightmenu++ works. :yaynds:
Downloaded the files from the github source, added the mentioned required sources, also the rom without AP patch and ran the compile.bat from commandline.

Path for required sources:
Folder/unpack/input.nds
Folder/Folder/unpack/ndstool.exe
Folder/blz.exe
Folder/armpips.exe

Run in commandline.\compile.bat

I know this is and old post but... would anyone modify the patch or make additional patch to disable the dpad bringing out the map during the train sections? Shoco made a fantastic patch for 3DS that enables analog movement and also moving the camera using the circle pad, but sadly the dpad map function on the train collides with this.

rolling in the desert final boss is bugged, if you try to roll left or right it forces you to roll upwards or towards the stage edge

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol

@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways

you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market

Yeah I think Nvidia s future lays in AI GPU acceleration stuff if they can get that going it's going to be super interesting in the long term

@Psionic Roshambo AI assisted game creation is kinda already here, there was recently that AI that can turn any 2D image into a fully modeled 3D object, it's not perfect, but it's a starting point, beats starting from zero

before that there was one to generate a fully modeled scene from a 2D image

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but most recently, there was one that actually generates a working unity scene with terrain and textures already set up that you can import right into unity, that's a huge time saver right there
