Posted today on the official Terraria forums was the news of the cancellation of the Terarria spinoff title Terraria Otherworld. Developer Re-Logic announced that the game was behind schedule and development had become too troubled for the company to let the project continue. Otherworld was initially revealed about three years ago, and would use the concept from the popular Terraria series, and try to take a new approach at the series, while using the same base game of Terarria to do such. The first sign that the game was having issues in its development was when Engine Software had stopped working on it, and Re-Logic hired Pipework Studios to help collaborate instead.

As you all know from when we first announced the game a long while ago – and as we repeated in our subsequent posts - Re-Logic’s focus has and always will be on delivering complete and quality game experiences to our fanbase. Just to underscore it once more, this means that we will not compromise game quality for speed to market or for any other reasons within our control. Our team has a clear vision for this game – one that we shared with all of you with much shared excitement – and, in spite of all of our efforts, the current state of the game remains equal parts far from that vision and beyond behind schedule from our initial planning when we shared Otherworld with all of you three years ago. Progress has absolutely been made during that time – but unfortunately, a very thorough status review of the game versus its intended design showed both the Re-Logic and 505/Pipeworks teams that things were quite a bit further away from the finish line than we had imagined.

Though the spinoff was cancelled, further development on the original Terraria game will not be impacted, and a new update is currently being worked on.

Doesn't bother me too much. I love the original Terraria so much and I'm excited for more updates to it. Otherworld could've been really cool though, I'll always wonder how it could've turned out if the original Terraria team was able to develop it completely.

I have been waiting since they said it would be released in 2015. They kept stringing everyone along promising that it would come out. Now they cancel it? Absolute shmucks.

And the mobile version of terraria has been plagued with so many damn bugs.

heh, terraria is full of content and stuff! try it, it's really cool... specially the bosses

minecraft is dull and empty compared to terraria, to enjoy minecraft you actually need the mods, otherwise it's very meh

I don't like Terraria neither Battle Royal kind of games, though there's one coming soon only in China that looks cool with destructive environments like Battlefield, boats, nice weather effects and so on...

Nothing of value was lost. Terraria is still a fantastic game to play and I'll be waiting for its inevitable Switch port this year.

Honestly don't care about this game. I'd rather they focus on the Switch port (and actually make it on par with the PC version), and make Terraria 2 the game it deserves to be. This Otherworld spinoff was nothing more than a distraction to me.

It looked like they were ripping off their own game with shittier graphics. I'm not even sure how that's possible but they did it.
I'm sad they didn't just focus manpower on Terraria. I guess Terraria is FAR from profitable, but eh. More profitable than a dead game.

I just couldn't get into Terraria. I tried, but it never "grabbed" me like Minecraft did. The gameplay just felt meh. The 2D graphics didn't help. When I try and play it just feels like a chore. I feel bad too, because my son loves it.
