I come home from work this morning to find a bunch of cracks in my top screen. So, I fill out the repair and am paying a total of $64.20 USD to get it fixed.

1. Am I getting ripped off due to a poorly manufactured screen? I've only had it for three weeks and lost the Walmart receipt.
2. Do I need to get Luma off before sending it in?
3. Anything else I might need to know?

1. Why didn't you get the walmart protection plan? it would've been like 13 dollars to cover it.
2. Yes because luma voids your warranty.
3. look both ways before you cross the street.

Because I was actually expecting it to be a good system. My O3DSXL still runs flawlessly after 4 years, and got it from the exact same Walmart.

Apparently cracked screens are not covered by Nintendo's warranty, hence the questions.

cracked screens are covered by walmart's protection plan. Just saying.

  1. Can't say; I don't know the going rate for screen repair, nor do I know what your console has been subjected to in those three weeks.
  2. Even if you don't, you'll probably end up getting it back without Luma or a9lh/b9s on it. Nintendo will probably notice it's been hacked when they test the screens they install, and uninstall them. To be safe, I'd suggest uninstalling any hacks you're running and any non-legit CIAs, as well as any homebrew. Ninty might ban your NNID if they find hacks. Or they might not. I don't think anyone can say for certain.
  3. Can't really say anything else about the process of sending your system in for repair; I've never had to do that before. But I recommend either turning off your Wifi when you're not using it, or making sure to run some 3DS software (an official licensed game or one of the pack-in 3DS apps) after running any homebrew; there are people who suspect the banwaves are related to what Ninty sees in your recent software.

I would also remove any Homebrew titles from the Activity Log program.

EDIT: Removing CFW might do that anyway. IDK

At least I don't have to worry about NNID. I didn't make one. And I was just gonna put a blank SDCard in the slot. That's two problems down.

Now the removing CFW part. How exactly do I do that? I can easily reinstall it with my B9Scart when I get it back.

There is a GM9 script to Uninstall CFW. Go to 3ds.hacks.guide to find the script

Dude, nobody in their right mind should have to pay 13$ extra for a 3ds just to insure they are getting the product they put 100-150$+ on. Fuck that. This was not a case of user error.
so you think his screen just spontaneously cracked? lol of course it's user error. 13 dollars is to cover you breaking it.

Alright, my SysNAND is backed up, 128 GB SDCard swapped out with default 4 GB one, CFW is uninstalled, all files deleted on 4 GB SDCard, Activity Log deleted, browser history and bookmarks deleted just to be sure.

Now I just need to gain access to a printer and find a place that does UPS.

Don't know about US consumer laws, but here in Australia if you buy something from a business that is broken, you have a right to get a replacement or a refund. I'd assume US has similar consumer protection laws thing?

It is similar. But this happened three weeks after purchase, and cracked screens are not covered by Nintendo's warranty. Hopefully, the repair will go smoothly, and I'm going to look into something for protecting the N2DS top screen, so it doesn't happen again.

Can you upload a pic on the screen? I want to see how bad it is.

My bro had his o2ds spontaneously crack. He came back from school one day and asked me if I had messed with his console to which I replied confusedly then saw these extreme blunt force web-like cracks and immediately thought he broke it being upset since it extended from the joystick, but after seeing the home cameras, he was playing the night before without any signs of abuse which left me thinking he still did it but after reading this post I have to wonder..
I couldn't send it to Nintendo or Wal-Mart because I had hard-modded the console so it just sits there, waiting to be repaired. Damn bro..
