Hacking HDD not recognized by Nintendont or Wiiflow

Okay, so I hacked my Wii years ago for GC games and am just now getting into Wii games.
Recently I replaced DIOS-MIOS Lite with Nintendont for the perfect compatibility, works great. Then I got Abz's Wiiflow pack and cherry-picked the essentials to emulate Wii games. Worked good enough. All this is on my SD card though, so I thought I should get an HDD for more space and to hopefully not fry my SD.
My brother bought me a 500GB one and I got EaseUS to format it to a single partition FAT32 with 32k cluster size. Moved the "wbfs" and "games" folders from the root of my SD to the root of the HDD... Wiiflow recognizes a USB is inserted but "Disk-wait failed" when I press install, and Nintendont gives a weird error when I click on the USB option... I'm having difficulty finding what I need to do and I'm mentally exhausted now, so I finally made an account on here. Any ideas? I know about the HDD compatibility list, but my model wasn't on it.

Other details:
- HDD: Maxone USB 3.0 Device (can't post Amazon link because I'm a new member)
- MBR Signature (is this important?): C52973CF
- SD seems to also be FAT32 format.
- It's been so long since I hacked the Wii, I'm not sure all that's installed into it and where. I originally hacked it with only an SD in mind, so maybe I'm missing WADs for USB compatibility?

Wii USB Slots are USB 2.0 and has low amp rating
you need the one with external power and or usb with Y wire

usually it isn't very picky - but on some occasions it refuse to work with some hdd's / enclosures

I was afraid the 3.0 was the culprit... Ok, so, can I just get an adapter of some sort? Or, does USBs even work that way? I'm especially not so computer savvy on the hardware side of things, but what's a Y wire? Googling it, I'm not sure if that could work with a Wii.. But again, I have no idea what's what. :'B

but word of advice

wii may or may not detect it still depends on the usb controller too -

i bough a 2.0 with y and a 3.0 single cable enclosures
the 2.0 didn't work even with the y cable
the 3.0 obviously didn't work -
what I did was, use the y cable from the 2.0 and used the 3.0 enclosure and the wii detected it.

Well, the cord you suggested seems cheap, so it wouldn't hurt to try. ^^; And if it doesn't work still, I can do like you did and combine the two cables? Am I understanding that correctly?

yes that's exactly what i did,

cos it is cheaper to buy the cable than buy the whole enclosure

you might lose usb 3.0 functionality however if the cables are purely usb 2.0 with y
so better to get the one with usb 3.0 Y (for transferring to your usb3 compatible computer)

The short lead one that's labeled "2.0" is only for extra power and doesn't have the data pins connected. You can either connect it to the other port or a USB power brick.

See, this is why I was confused about how to combine my cord with the Y cord you linked, since all the ends on both cords are male. >.< I think I better understand now..

Alright, thank you for the clarification.

You just need a MicroUSB Y-cable. USB 2.0 or 3.0 doesn't matter since the Wii only supports USB 2.0 anyway.
An enclosure is only for when you're providing your own 2.5" HDD.

I know 3.0 USBs are still downwards compatible with 2.0, but isn't the issue here that the Wii is not totally recognizing the 3.0 anyway? Hence it does matter and why I was told to get a Y cable? And, aren't I providing my own HDD? Or do you mean, enclosures are for the inside of the device to replace the original HDD? I'm sorry for all the questions, I don't think I'm fully understanding you...

I wanted to be sure before I got one, but I'm about to go out to Walmart and get a Y-cable anyway. I sure do hope it works! ^^;

Let me clarify, you put a bare laptop HDD inside an enclosure to turn it into an external HDD. What you have is already an enclosure with a laptop HDD inside of it.

So, leerz just used his Y cord with his now external HDD? Which didn't work with just the single 3.0 cord. So, it's my exact setup just his HDD was from his laptop. Okay, so many new terms I learned, haha!
Couldn't find the Y cord at Walmart (wishful thinking on my part), but someone in the house has Amazon Prime so I'll just order it after all.

No, I don't know many people. I could ask around, but I live so far away from everyone it wouldn't be worth it! But it's fine, I ordered it and it'll arrive in two days.
I'll be sure to give an update if it worked or not then! But, I have a pretty good feeling about it, y'all seem to know what you're talking about, hehe

Oh, woe is me! The Y cord came in today, but it didn't fix my issue! I plugged the 3.0 into the bottom side and the small 2.0 into the top and everything.
Are you guys sure there's no WAD or setting I'm missing? I really don't want to believe that my HDD is just incompatible...

You never posted a SysCheck report. There's a sure way to tell if it's the drive itself: put some homebrew on it in an /apps/ folder and switch the HBC to load from USB. If the channel can't see it chances are nothing else will either. Compatibility is ultimately determined by whether Nintendo's IOS can access the device or not.

You know, turns out I already had SysCheck and a report, just forgot about them. Updated SysCheck and made a new report, anyway though.

That d2x beta 53 could be your problem. It's got serious compatibility issues with both drives and games. It is only useful if you cannot use USB port 0 on your Wii.

To load homebrew from USB instead of SD press 1 on your Wii remote and select USB instead of SD. You will have to have some sort of homebrew on your USB in an /apps/ folder.

I tried to load HBC from the USB, but it seems to be unclickable... Since I'm desperate, I'll try to replace the d2x beta 53 anyway.
So, do I uninstall both "IOS249[56] (rev 21010, Info: d2x-v10beta53-alt)" and "IOS250[57] (rev 21010, Info: d2x-v10beta53-alt)"? Then replace them with cIOS249[56]-d2x-v10-beta52? That's a wad I just happen to have since I have Abz's megapack. Or do I only replace 249's with that?

If worse comes to worse, I guess I'll just take a look at the compatibility list and buy a recommended HDD, then give mine back to my brother or to my boyfriend I guess... Or maybe I'll keep it since I was planning on getting another drive to make yet another back up of all my data and files.
