Starting today, AVG constantly recognizes μTorrent as a virus and tries to quarantine it, even if I add it as an exception, making it impossible to run it at all! I haven't updated μTorrent at all in quite a while, so it's nothing related to new version, I've hash checked it to see that the exe is the proper one, so I don't know what's wrong. It's the exe itself that is treated as a virus. Any help is appreciated. And keep it relevant to the topic, not stupid comments about "don't use AVG", if I'm using it, there's a reason for it, no point in having such talks in an issue thread.

Read edit.
Using μTorrent because I can customize it more for stuff I need by tinkering with internal files. Doing that on a different program is just a waste of time. Now, on topic, any solution or possible cause?

I'm going to be honest... uTorrent is a lost cause. It's been tied to Spyware, adware and even Trojans. Use a better client.

I can't really say anything too specific because I don't give it much mind, but I remember hearing some rather dodgy things about μTorrent so I can't say I'm all too surprised.

99% of bad things tied to μTorrent are related to the "utorrentie.exe" that runs alongside it, which is easily exploitable, but I've managed to edit the program to not launch that exe along with other things. Switching clients is gonna be too much work, just need a quick fix for now, not enough time reconfiguring everything.

Uninstall uTorrent and delete all cache files; it may have been infected.

you should really be using qBittorrent anyways. But if you mush have to, then do a clean reinstall of uTorrent.
Already did that, didn't work.

You want a band aid that won't solve any issues? Use a different anti-virus or whitelist it.

What part of "even if I add it as an exception" did you miss?:P I tried whitelisting it 8 times, but AVG keeps scanning it, that's the issue. And as I said, I have a reason for using AVG, it's crap normally, but it's the only AV that doesn't suddenly do it's thing behind your back draining resources at the worst possible times. Plus I got it paid, so best choice besides that one (reliability wise and not spiking your RAM randomly) is Kaspersky and I'm not paying any more.

You can always blame Kapersky for uploading fake definitions to their competitors, so that their products would flag and delete important program and system files. They have been caught doing that multiple times and problably did it again.

But besides that, it's one of the best AVs around that ACTUALLY recognizes virus properly. You won't believe how easily stuff slip past Avast, McAfee, Norton, etc...

Sorry, I've had a few shots and I'm way out in left field. I'm going to stand by what I said about qBittorrent. It's not off topic either. uTorrent is terrible in terms of reliability and has been proven to have issues outside of what you mentioned.

Everyone bashing μTorrent just because of something that happened in the RECENT versions, just go, this isn't the EoF, stay on topic or don't post, end of story! OLD versions of it work just fine, so no reason to bother changing.

Now, about the issue, for anyone who was too much of an idiot to understand, it was an AVG issue, not a μTorrent one. Thanks for the shitposts telling me to change clients, but I resolved the issue myself. Apparently, I had AVG's settings in a way that allowed to install new beta versions and it happened that that one it updated to had an error in virus definitions, updated to stable version and it's all fixed, end of story.

You're being unreasonable. Not everybody uses AVG, don't expect answers tailored for your case.
I think the suggestion to try changing AVs was a good one, considering this.

Regarding old versions of uTorrent, they are full of unintentional vulnerabilities that make you a target for some kinds of attacks, of course those vulnerabilities aren't fixed if you don't update, and as you know, recent versions are full of spyware. Thus, I consider those suggestions to avoid uTorrent are quite good.
