Hot on the heels of the recent announcement to add a 20 player team battle mode to Fortnite - the ever popular online battle royale game, Epic Games have today announced the introduction of optional cross-platform play for Xbox.

The change will allow players to rank up against those on PC, Mac, iOS and eventually Android. Stat progression and in-game purchases will by synced between all platforms.

Unfortunately, as is the current trend; cross-platform play between PS4 and Xbox will not be supported. PS4 to PC, Mac, iOS and Android cross-platform play is still supported.

Hey Fortnite Community,

We’re happy to announce today that in partnership with our friends at Microsoft, Fortnite will feature cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-purchase, between Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS and (in the next few months) Android.

Contrary to what may have been implied, Microsoft has long been a leading voice in supporting cross-platform play, connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles. We’ve been working together with them over the last several months to make this possible, and will bring this functionality to Fortnite players on Xbox right along with other platforms.

With each new platform we support and every update we ship, we strive to bring Fortnite to more people, and make it easier to play together with friends. And, as always, cross-play is opt in.

X1 players use controller
Phone players use touch/controller/keymouse on tiny screen.

All your friends play Fortnite on PS4. If you want to play with them then you need a PS4.
That's why Sony won't allow crossplay, they don't need to.

Don't see how it is fair competing PC players with no aim assist against players using a controller and aim assist seeing as they want it to be an E-sports and that is a giant red flag for being an E-sports. But í'm guessing that's why they made it optional so that they can still have a go towards E-sports wich it will never turn in 2

Pretty sure they'll offer an option for those console players that don't want to play against pc players. Mouse offers too much an advantage in shooters.

....what? I don't get it. Platforms are already cross play including PS4....I've been playing from my PC with all my console peasant friends since the game launched? As well as progression has been synced? Although, not too sure about Xbone but I know for a fact PS4 has always been cross play at least with PC.

Xbox One players can play with PC, Mac, and mobile.

PlayStation 4 players can play with PC, Mac, and mobile.

Again no aim assist on pc like on console. Go play it on pc with a controller and go play it on xbox and you immediatly feel the aim assist being totally different on console
