At the tail end of the Direct, Nintendo dropped that Super Smash Bros is coming to the Switch. Nothing more than a slight teaser was shown, with Splatoon characters. The game will launch this year.

I'm not sure why anybody would believe it's a port, Nintendo isn't gonna put out a teaser trailer for a port. MK8D and Pokken DX were revealed up-front, along with any other WiiU ports like Bayonetta 1+2.

Same engine, slightly different game modes, new base characters (Squids and perhaps others), new DLC characters (Travis Touchdown, Amaterasu, Solaire, Papyrus and/or Sans would be awesome), Mario and Link changed to reflect their Switch games, 5mash.

Don't even want to think up DLC yet, but Travis should be a base character. Proabably Ameterasu too.

This aside, I feel grateful and sad for Sakurai. That said, I still want a Kid Icarus sequel soon.

No Splatoon 2 is Splatoon 2. It really isn't hard to grasp.

Yeah. It could have been called Splatoon DX. It's an enhanced version of Splatoon 1.
Which is what a LOT of games are nowadays. People don't even think about it twice. They see the word "port" and they bitch, without actually seeing the potential value you get from the GaaS model, perfectly adapted for this kind of games.

And call me fanboy if you want (are people spamming that think it's an insult for nintendo fans?) but I have absolutely no problem with a enhanced port. The trap is considering that because it's gonna have a 5 instead of a 4 it's gonna be a new game. If it reuses the same assets, same mechanics and add content, it's a rebranded enhanced port. The only big difference is that they can remove stages and characters and bring them back as dlc (or not). You effectively LOSE content by asking for a Smash 5 versus an Expansion pack for Smash 4.


Whether it's sold as Smash 4 DX or Smash 5 won't change the fact that it's going to use the same engine, same assets and etc. They would be insanely stupid to start from scratch.
And it's stupid for us to bitch about a potential port when we could have a win/win situation with a Smash 4.5.

when i first saw the splatoon characters in the trailer i was like dang, more splatoon?

and was like well.. that's some good animation, and then bam.
Nintendo knows how to please its fans that's for sure, and somehow it looks like it's not going to be a simple port of the wiiu version, i think there's going to be more to it.

I've had an idea for this new Smash Bros. I hear people complaining that the game is "Not Melee" a lot, so maybe Nintendo could make a Melee mode and Brawl mode in the game. Melee mode would have L-Cancelling and all the mechanics from the original, and Brawl would function like Smash 4 and Brawl for the people (like me) that like that play style more. I hope that Nintendo does something like this!

LOL sakurai already said its a new smash game he has been working in secret, and today i got a nintendo newsletter saying (in portuguese btw) a new super smash bros game will make its debut on nintendo switch.
