At the tail end of the Direct, Nintendo dropped that Super Smash Bros is coming to the Switch. Nothing more than a slight teaser was shown, with Splatoon characters. The game will launch this year.

So Inklings and BOTW Link, but a 2018 release. I could see this being Smash 4 with story and new characters, or Smash 4 with new features and characters and stages. I really REALLY don't imagine it'll be a new game, seeing as HAL Lab was making a few Kirbys, and working on smash 4 DLC until 2016 (?). I'd love to be proven wrong, but with a 2018 launch, I fully expect Smash 4 DX & Knuckles, and I am absolutely fine with that.

To be fair, people thought Splatoon 2 was going to be a port/DX version at first.

They could have been working on this soon after Smash 4 (especially if it was by different people). They can multitask making a new game while making new characters for the old one.

I'm just going to wait rather than guess.

They need to take their time like with zelda

Because, as we all know, game development starts when the first announcement is published. It's completely impossible that this game was in development for years beforehand.

Don't get me wrong, I am all excited for Smash on the Switch. But, am a tiny bit worried that Nintendo is releasing their heavy hitters (Zelda, Mario, now Smash) a bit close together. With the system also being a hybrid handheld, doesn't that extend the life span of a system a bit? Personally, I would space them out a bit, but I would also love to see new entries for games such as F-Zero and Pilotwings. I dunno, just my thoughts on this

I don't think Nintendo would be lazy for porting Sm4sh, but I do think they would've already done it if that was the plan.

Smash 4 (2 games mind you) was developed in 2 years (development started in 2012) They have had PLENTY of time, 4 years is more than enough, a lot more than 2 years.

I'm not sure why anybody would believe it's a port, Nintendo isn't gonna put out a teaser trailer for a port. MK8D and Pokken DX were revealed up-front, along with any other WiiU ports like Bayonetta 1+2.

Same engine, slightly different game modes, new base characters (Squids and perhaps others), new DLC characters (Travis Touchdown, Amaterasu, Solaire, Papyrus and/or Sans would be awesome), Mario and Link changed to reflect their Switch games, 5mash.
