So, just recently I bought an used PS3 Slim CECH-2004B with a 250GB HDD. I didn't have any issues yet, didn't encounter any freezes (unless I made a bad rip) or sudden shutdowns.

I, being paranoid as hell, am asking you - would these temperatures be good:
CPU - 63°C-65°C
RSX - 60°C-62°C?
That's after playing all kinds of games, be it non-demanding (such as various JRPGs) or demanding (such as GTA V, GoW3 etc.).

I have it set to dynamic fan speed, meaning it'll keep the temperature at 65°C or less.
However, the fan does go crazy sometimes. Its minimum speed is set to 35% and (while playing non-demanding games) it's between 35% and 45%, but it can raise up to around 55% on demanding games. That can get quite distractive, but I just put some headphones on and rack up the volume.

But, as I said, I'm pretty paranoid. I kind of understand that the mentioned CPU and RSX temperatures are fine, but is the fan speed okay? Will the fans wear out after being at that speed for too long?

I cleaned only the fan ports and did the fan cleaning function (hold eject and plug in cable), I didn't open it (I'm quite careless so I kind of avoid doing that).
Also, if it matters, the room temperature is currently more or less 27°C. The console is in a horizontal position and has enough place to breath.

Please, answer my question any way you know. I'd be grateful to you.
Thanks in advance.

im thinking about putting artic siler 5 thermal paste on for ggod measure but um not sure if this is good measure or not...

So up to 55% fan speed on a Slim is normal? And the temperature is fine as well?

I wouldn't apply thermal paste myself, I already broke one PS3 trying to do it. I think I'd send it to an expert. I also ordered a vertical stand since I heard that the console has better airflow while in that position (or something like that).

Also, thanks for the response.

really? Where do you think you went wrong?

Nobody could tell. It didn't even show the red LED light. Took it to an expert and he said he cannot find the issue. Maybe something happened to the motherboard?

So, the fan speed shouldn't be an issue if it keeps the temperature down or what?

yea, ive been researching for days how to replace thermal compound for PS3 and have recently concluded it best not to do it all for a number of reasons and it not at all to do with lack of expertise...

My findings are this; if you have PS3 that has never seen a hardware mod, used an eflasher or replaced the thermal compound and you can live with a noisy PS3, you are far more likely to see many more years use with your PS3 then somebody who has performed these mods. There is a huge benefit to not upsetting the origional placement of the cpu and rsx.

Thanks for the advice, it seems I learned it the hard way.
I opened it up and cleaned the dust (it wasn't too dusty actually) and tried it again, the temperatures and fan speed remain the same. I won't go further than that since it's normal for a PS3 Slim that's jailbroken to be noisy because of the large amount of background process'. As long as it keeps the temperature under 65°C I guess I'm fine?

those are fine..
my phat ps3 reaches 80c and gets so loud then i must turn it off or it will turn off by itself.

your ps3 is good, just make sure to keep it well ventilated , do not place it in a cramped section.
i wrecked my phat ps3 by placing it somwhere with little air around its base.

I have one slim and two fats and i always put the fans at 30% more speed than oem and a limit at 65ºC (Configuration on webman) and is normal the console on idle stays on 50/55ºC and on game 60/65º.

I bought, repaired and sold many fat ones and all of them gets thats temperatures. What i've read is that the recommended is staying below 70ºC to avoid ylod

Is that with the Slim? If yes, then it's pretty much like my setup: 35% min. fan speed and 65°C max. CPU/RSX temperature.

It seems that the console is still in good condition. I'll take good care of it and clean it regularly. It has enough space (around 20cm at each side) but I'll free some stuff on the table so it has more.

yep with the slim too... and on the slim i have 35% like you because is on a closed space, the fat ones i only use on open space.

The important is not having big differences on the temps ;) 50/65 range is good and the fan is not very noise. on the summer, the fan speeds more to respect the 65ºC but I prefer more noise insted high temps

yeah, i once tried replacing the thermal paste on a ps3 slim 2501 and halfway through the process broke the fan connector straight off the motherboard. The problem is the fan connector is fragile and can easily be broken off if you aren't careful (like me). I was going to attempt to resolder the connector, but that looks waaaaaayyyyy to difficult for me, and my soldering iron isn't the best. Also, I've built and repaired several desktop computers, and replacing the paste on the cpu isn't that hard. the problem with the ps3, is getting to the cpu, and gpu....... anyway, i've semi-learned my lesson and am staying away from replacing the paste on the slims. I now have 2 modded phats and another modded slim that i'd prefer not to open up. Thanks to webman i can safely keep my temps at 67 while playing a game or on the home menu. The only issue i've noticed is the fan can really REALLY get loud when playing a game on the Phats. Anyway, my advice, unless you really know what you are doing and are careful, you shouldn't open up the ps3. if you are careful and have experience with taking things apart and following directions, you will probably be ok for replacing the paste.

agreed!

The biggest issue to which most people arent aware of unless youve done your research... Pretty much all have been running their PS3 without webman fan control for many years, at high temps. During that time your soldier balls have slowly dropped.... how much is anyones guess but to then put those chips through a rigorous sticky heatsink removal and thermal paste rub down... with aged solder balls??? Yikes!!

And regarding the fan, yes I've seenvthe warnings but dont know why no one has recommended this but i reckon its best then just to snip that fan wire for easier connects/disconnects, at least thats what ill be doing next time I open it. Need to be able to disconnect fan to properly clean dust

So now, once my room temperature is more normal and my room is not as stifling as it was before (spring came so I can finally open my window a bit) the CPU/RSX temperature is quite low now. I tested Atelier Iris and Persona 4 (PS2 games) and GTA San Andreas (the PS3 version). These aren't very power-consuming games, but the temperature was low after a couple of hours gameplay - 58°C CPU, 55°C RSX and 34% fan speed. The console is quiet now and I'm pleasantly surprised. I didn't try demanding games yet but I'll report when I try some.

About my previous console... I recall damaging the Power/Eject ribbon cable. It's an extremely sensitive component of the console. However, if the experts couldn't repair it, there just has to be more to it. The motherboard is most likely damaged since the screws were really stiff when I tried to unscrew them. I had to use a bit of force - that might've caused the damage. What I know now is that I'll open the console once every few months only if I'll want to do some cleaning.

Slim consoles are way less prone to overheating issues. From the info you provided thats normal your console coconsole is working great
