On Mame for Wii I was able to use the Wii Remote as a light gun but for Retroarch for Wii U I can't figure out how to do it if it is even possible. Does anyone know?

This would be great! I have been wondering the same thing as I'm sick of ZERO light gun games for HDTVs :(

I also wanted to know if you could, for example, use the balance board as analog stick input, and wii remote for the buttons to play 1080 or waverace for example on N64 emulation, via retro arch or dolphin (on pc/shield tv etc)

Genplus has the Phazer option enabled, but nothing happens with the Wii remote.

For what is worth Duck Hunt is available on VC with pointing support :)

That's some news but to have such a feature in RetroArch would be fantastic nevertheless. ;)

Currently we can only read the WiiU tablet as a "pointer", but not a mouse or lightgun. Here's the pull request about it.
When using this setting in MAME 2003, the gun is controlled with the left stick and fired by tapping the screen, whereas simply tapping the screen should translate to an X/Y position.
The gun's crosshair position is also limited to a circular area.
I don't think that can be improved right now.
I'd love to play games like "Point Blank" or "Lucky & Wild" with either a tablet or a wiimote.

Ok, playing terminator 2 would be awesome, I hope you will be implement it very soon :)

I also have lot of trouble to find to right romset working with cores, I use the last version 1.7.1 with mame 2000 0.137b5 and 90% of games have graphics glitches or distorsion. Any idea why ? I read somewhere the 1.3.3 version work better ?

Don't misunderstand, I'm not working on the libretro project. These are just what I have found.
There's an internet archive organization that you should search. Also, I would recommend MAME 2003 for lower-end consoles like the WiiU, as explained here.
