hi everyone,
I've been thinking recently of upgrading from my old 3ds (that I have had since 2011 which has CFW (luma) ld one, no BS9 stuff).
to a new 3ds XL (which is bigger in size & screens, has a built in NFC amino reader (unlike old 3ds which needs external NFC adapter).

I found a new 3ds xl in my local game store (in black color) for 200 Euro (cheapest one).
I'll probably buy it in march when I have some money for it.
my old 3ds has a slow/messed up circle pad) it got wasted with too much smash 4.

my question(s) are that how can I do the following?

1) since im going from old -> new 3ds, can I just hack my new 3ds using a hack (soundhax etc) and
then transfer my existing cfw setup (emunand/luma) from my old 3ds to my new one using pc?

2) do I need to downgrade to 9.2 on new 3ds? or just follow the 3ds.guide?

3) do I need to backup all my saves using the save manager? or just copy all my existing stuff to my new sd for new 3ds? (I.e 64 gb -> Micro 64 gb)

thanx

so, if I hack my New 3ds unit, using a hack depending on it's stock FW to get CFW luma 3ds (latest ver),
to get my emunand and all it's stuff to my new 3ds I just copy everything over or just follow the info in the 3ds.gude?

the new 3ds xl was related in 2015, so it's stock fw will be around 11.0 -11.3?

just use 3ds.guide to cfw the new unit then do a system transfer . . . or using the dsiware method you can cfw the unit while you system transfer

then use soundhax to cfw the new system and then do a system transfer

acuatally, I'll just do the whatever hax for my new 3ds when I get it, and just install all my stuff in .cia format from scratch,
as since im going from old 3ds -> new 3ds, I can't just copy/paste the sd stuff :(
however, I did backup all my game saves that were in the installable .cia games using JKSM's "SD/CIA", pressing Y option to export all.

well, np. it's not that big of a hassle, as I got my saves in an JKSM format that I can import to my new system using JKSM.
as for the specific hax, I could use soundhax opened on the stock system FW,
or if it is the all versions I could use Nrtboothax method (as I have 2x ds carts for the hax (Acekart 2I & R4I RTS 3DS).

I'm not sure what he's saying above, but you can use the system transfer itself to mod the n3ds. If the n3ds is completely unmodded, follow 3ds.guide and select dsiwarehax.

yes you can copy-paste the SD stuff, from regular SD to micro SD. thats the whole point of System Transfer (and NNID...)

hmm, so you mean system transfer will work for going from old 3ds to new 3ds (some files are different, i.e 3ds folder and such?)
also, since im trying to transfer emUnand to sysnand, this will work?

dsiwaware hax method for me is difficult to do, not possible. the nrtboothax is easier however :)

any hack will be good. just make sure you can hack your n3ds first.

when you system transfer the encryption key for your SD content is carried over. thats why copying from SD to SD will work.
just make sure you select that option that you will copy using a PC.
if you choose wireless transfer it will ignore games you don't own as well as any homebrew CIA and I think format your SD card.

so make sure to choose PC.

the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol

I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)

So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding

AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that

least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling

They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great

so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow

I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
