Ok here's the situation, work are moving to SKYPE telephony as part of a wider shift to Office365 and they provided these shitty logitech headsets which are both flimsy and abysmal for audio /voice. So I'm just going to buy my own headset to keep so avoid dealing with this shit.

Here's my criteria
  • Works with SKYPE telephony ( I know pretty much any headset)
  • Provide good sound/voice capabilities (I may as well have Spotify on)
  • Ideally over ears
  • Comfortable to wear (I'm envisaging wearing these for considerable chunks of the day)
  • Have USB input
Unlike with headphones, I'm not finding the interwebs providing me with, particularly good insight unless it's a gaming headset. I've been eyeing up the Steelseries Arctis 5 which looks alright (£80) but I'm self conscious about getting anything gamer related as I've moved to corporate at my employer. However I don't want to risk getting something that looks professional but is a shit. So d like to hear opinions from da temp.

All USB headsets I've seen have been gamer oriented, I guess USB headsets don't appeal much to professional users.
But that's not necessarily a bad thing. Gaming headsets can be great for voice and music alike if you choose carefully. Just don't get one that looks incredibly gamer-y or you'll stand out.

I use sennheiser sc660 in my job.they also use Skype for all of their telephony and the headset does really well. Not sure how much you want to spend though

Yeah, I'm not too crazy on spending anything more than £80. I don't want to go all out on fixing my work's shittyness in providing gear. I'm only willing to spend that much is because I'll end up having them around my ears for a good chunk of the day.

I'm thinking I get away with this in the office:

The black one looks too gamey.

I know you don't want gamey headsets but I love these puppies. can nab em on ebay for about $100. Wireless & wired, the dongle has a 3.5mm jack (so you can plug your phone into it and answer calls with built in button on wired). the headset has a 3.5mm jack too... to do whatever you want.

AKG K7XX/K702 + USB DAC + Blue Yeti mic. Your ears will thank me. Your wallet will not.

Real talk though I've had a lot of success with and have used this for years - https://www.rocketfishproducts.com/pdp/RF-GUV1201/3088969

Sadly it's discontinued. There may be a successor but I haven't looked.

LTT did a decent video on best cheap headsets though. Might be worth looking at.
