Hmm, story sounds pretty fishy. Whether it's true or not, this is absolutely NOT stealing. If the guy knew who the owner was then it would be a different story.

Do what you please.. The universe doesn't work like most people would hope to believe. And if you didn't post this thread, no one would have known that you had it in the first place. It's really up to you if you want to return it or not, but you won't get any judgement from me. If I was careless enough to lose my belongings in a backpack on the street, and someone found it, I would understand if I never saw it again.
I live in reality. Would it have made more sense for him to just leave it there? He clearly doesn't know who the owner is. He did not break any laws.Wish I lived in your world. Not your property, you don't own it. There's a reason "squatting" is illegal.
Only difference here is that a dollar bill doesn't have a user account attached to it with a perfectly functional customer support.Only here people could think that finding something on the side of the road is stealing. You guys will literally go to any lengths to tear people down, won't you? I doubt the guy could return the switch even if he wanted to. I mean, its not like your address and phone number are registered to your account. How would he even find the original owner? Put up a Craig's List ad? ....please. The guy is homeless, down on his luck, and probably couldn't return the system to its rightful owner even if he wanted to. Admit it, if you morons found a Switch lying around, you'd keep it too, so don't try to act holier-than-thou.
Maybe this guy is a troll, maybe he is a liar, maybe not. I don't know him at all so I wont judge him, but lets face it... Most of the people here freaking out and calling this guy a "common thief" based on the tiny bit of info they actually know.... just stop. I'm willing to bet that the majority of you still live under mommy and daddy's financial security blanket, and have no clue just how tough it is to be on the street. So many people here are such assholes these days. I'm starting to remember why I don't come here frequently any more....
EDIT: Here's an example of what I mean. Let's say you're walking down the street, and you see a $100 bill blowing down the sidewalk. You pick it up. Is that stealing too? I mean, it was someone else's $100 bill at one point. Would you go to the police station and try to find the original owner? Of course not... There is a LARGE difference between finding something that isn't yours, and stealing it.
Nope, a credit card is just a piece of plastic. The credit card itself is absolutely worthless. The Switch is nothing like that.Only difference here is that a dollar bill doesn't have a user account attached to it with a perfectly functional customer support.
If you're going with the "finding money" example, a credit card would be much better here, since it has both, and of course you're gonna return it instead of using it.
The point here is that you can easily contact a bank and have the credit card returned, just like with a Switch and Nintendo Support. A dollar bill is untraceable, unless someone writes their phone number on every bill they get.Nope, a credit card is just a piece of plastic. The credit card itself is absolutely worthless. Library computersDo people really believe this story? It's sounds so fishy and odd. A new account, a karma story and homeless to boot. I don't believe it for a second.
And s/he lives on the streets and happen to come to GBATemp of all forums? And how the heck do the person go online?
There's a linked NNID. He can contact Nintendo Support.and no way to access to find someone
