I just recently came back to my 3ds and after a bit of work I managed to update to luma 9+ after switching to b9s.

Now while doing the process I know I deleted the payload for the gateway card.
Before this I am 98% sure I still have the emunand installed + Luma 6.0 or so, since I used the gateway card via payload quite often.

The reason why I want to get access to my gateway is because I also have a micro sd with 32gbs. and I prefer to have certain games I dont play often in that micro as as opposed as having them as .CIA on my SD card

My main concern if I can get the gateway to work safely, I saw this thread, https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/ , but I am a bit worried I might screw something up.
Is there something I can check prior to know make sure I have an emunand still as the guide from that link explains ?

thanks for your time

Load up GodMode9 by holding Start on boot. If it shows EMUNAND VIRTUAL then you know you have emuNAND.

thanks for the reply, I really appreciate it.

Godmode9 does not show EMUNAND VIRTUAL anywhere, just sysnand virtual.

I guess I could access the gateway mode before because I had an earlier version of Luma/was using a9lh.

Does this mean, I cant use the gateway anymore ?

  1. Make an emuNAND using GodMode9
  2. Find a 9.2 CTR transfer file for your type and region by doing a Web archive search of https://3ds.guide/9.2.0-ctrtransfer
  3. Do a CTR transfer using that file, on emuNAND: follow https://3ds.guide/ctrtransfer but do it on emuNAND and use the 9.2 file
  4. Follow https://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-using-luma3ds-gateway-on-b9s.431691/
  5. Get a Yoshi's Wooly World rom and put it on your Gateway card
  6. Boot into Gateway while holding L and Select so the menu appears
  7. Hold Up on the D-pad while selecting the boot Gateway mode option
  8. Try to play Yoshi, you'll be updated to 11.2 which is the highest you can go using Gateway.

Wow thanks so much I will start with this in a few minutes

So doing steps 1-4 will essentially net me an emunand on 9.2 and should be able to use the gatewaycard up to 9.2 emunand, without having to worry about loosing my CFW or anything of the sort right.
I just dont want to have to format or loose my Luma cfw

and I tried gomode9 right now and I found no option to create an emunand

Have a look at https://3ds.guide/godmode9-usage under formatting SD cards. And you'll have an emuNAND on 11.2 by the end.

Seeing how that step will format my SD and I kinda want to avoid that.

Would using a completely different SD work as well ?
Just back up your card beforehand.
You can use a different SD card, but then you run the risk of accidentally booting GW SysNAND if you forget to swap cards which wipes B9S.
Also, to get into the GW menu with B9S/A9LH, you need to press L+Select instead of just L.

On A9LH/B9S it's L+Select. But the rest of what you said is correct.

you are right and swapping SD cards would also make it much more of a hassle.

So if I do a regular SD back up of all the file (copy contents to PC)
then do the steps in this thread,
and then move the content back to the SD from the copy on my pc

will I have access to my regular luma cfw and all my save files + access to my gateway card ?

Will I have to reupdate luma after doing the guide/steps on this thread posted by Quantumcat ?

You won't have access to your original stuff while in Gateway mode (your games might transfer over to the emuNAND if you follow the CTR transfer directions properly but not sure what the effect on your save progress would be). When you're finished you'll be able to either boot into Luma sysNAND (just turn on your system[or Luma emuNAND if you change the config to boot into emuNAND]) or into Gateway mode (hold a key while booting up). Your Gateway card will not work while in Luma and likewise Luma features will not work while in Gateway mode (eg Rosalina or being able to play GBA games). You won't have to re-update anything.

thanks I am in the process of getting the things I will need.

A few things I am a bit unsure about, do I need to follow the whole 100% guide for https://3ds.guide/ctrtransfer ?

and also in that guide there's a part that I want to double check this:

  1. Navigate to [0:] SDCARD -> gm9
  2. Press (A) on the CTRTransfer .bin to select it
  3. Select “CTRNAND options…”
  4. Select “Transfer image to CTRNAND”
  5. If prompted, select “Transfer to SysNAND”
    • This prompt will only appear if you have an EmuNAND
Will I see anything different or have to select something different, since I am supposed to do it in Emunand as the instructions above
