Xbox Game Pass subscription to include all future Xbox exclusives at launch

Microsoft appears to be making their game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass, into more than just a monthly digital rental service. Announced today by Phil Spencer, Xbox's vice president executive, Xbox Game Pass will now include first party Microsoft titles, on launch. This means that future Xbox exclusives will be available to play on launch day, even if you don't own it, so long as you have a subscription. The first of these games to be a part of this initiative will be Sea of Thieves, the upcoming Rare Studios game, with plans to do the same for Crackdown 3, State of Decay 2, and more.

...follow through with State of Decay 2, Crackdown 3, and the rest of our portfolio. Not just those games, but our future Halos, our future Gears of War, future Forzas, and other games. Our plan is to launch those to our Game Pass subscribers at the same time they go to retail.

Xbox Game Pass was revealed back in February 2017, and launched in June of that same year. Currently, the subscription costs $9.99 a month, and allows players access over a hundred Xbox One, Xbox 360, and a handful of original Xbox games. Unlike its competitor PlayStation Now, Xbox Game Pass lets players download the games right to their system and allows them access at any time.

In regards to the company's Play Anywhere initiative, which offers a Windows Store PC copy with a purchase of every digital first party Xbox title, Spencer mentioned that he wants to see customers play their games on both Microsoft platforms, and that while there was no news for PC players at this time, he told fans to "stay tuned" on that front.

Though the Xbox One has lacked first party support in recent times, compared to rivals PlayStation and Nintendo, Phil Spencer tells fans to wait for E3 2018, and that they are focusing on the Xbox brand, and are committed to bringing more first party experiences to Xbox One and PC.

Huh. That's a smart move. They'll make a ton of cash like that. I guarantee many people will just run a subscription for this concurrent with their XBL subscription. More savvy gamers will probably opt to buying titles they know they'll play or a long time and only pop a subscription to play a new title for a month. Either way works out well for both gamers and Microsoft tbh. This is a clear cut above the competition.

Playstation got shoes that light up. Okay, I'll admit this is cool too, but won't those games also be on pc via the windows store?
They will be, but what Spencer seemed to insinuate was that PC players might get in on the Xbox Game Pass features somehow perhaps, in the future.

Well I mean they really need to be selling that xbox one x they made, so was just thinking if they was trying to do that with this or not, cause if this works on pc then it won't do much for that console sales right?

And maybe half that which will get good reviews/have broad interest.

That makes this game pass even better though, instead of paying $120 for those few new titles you just pay $10 and then cancel when your done with everything after that month.

Hope they bring it to PC because this is a better deal than buying those same games on Steam.

It's not a better deal because you don't get to keep them, and if you wait long enough it's $10 to keep them. OTOH, most of these games in particular you probably wouldn't want to keep, so fair enough on your first point.

Something people need to realize is that there's a huge console gaming market. Hell most online games have healthier, larger, longer lasting communities on their console counterparts.
If an exclusive is on Xbone and PC, it's still an Xbone exclusive, because PS4 doesn't have it. Xbone isn't competing with Windows, they're basically the same. It's a win either way for Microsoft.

I am totally for this, the only time I purchase games recently is if it is an exclusive or I really enjoy the multiplayer, If I can use game pass for a couple months to save some money and knock out the exclusives that is more than fine with me.

My post may be a little off-topic but i'd like to point out something that might of slipped here, Phil Spencer states multiple Halo's & multiple Forza's BUT only states a single upcoming Gears of War game!?
