I'd like to throw out a proposition. A cheaper way for those of us on 1.0 to utilize the entry point for the browser.

The idea: I would import a copy of that specific game that has the browser entry point, and mail it around to all of those who need it for their 1.0 consoles.
( I am intentionally not mentioning the name of the game for bot and website scraping reasons. Scalpers are rampant with Nintendo related items. )
Everyone that uses the cart would in part pay a small portion of the cost.
At around 9-10 members, the cost would be ~$5 each. The more people that want to do this, the cheaper it would be for all. At 20 members, we would be below $3.

Each member would be responsible for shipping the cart to the next member
. The previous member would be covering the shipping cost to you. This could be as low as $2.xx
Unfortunately, this would have to be a USA only offer, as cross-border freight costs would be prohibitive.
If members in other countries would like to take part in something similar, they would need to organize an agreement for their area.

Now this all depends greatly on how CFW and homebrew is implemented. But if the cart is only needed once, just to install an exploit or CFW, then no one would need the cart beyond that one time use.
This thread is only to see if there is enough interest to be worthwhile. If there is interest, and once something substantial is released, we can then decide if this method would be sensible.

I do not know if this is a good or bad idea. Was thinking of ideas that could benefit the GBAtemp community, and this thought crossed my mind.
Comment below if this is of interest to you. We need to gauge if this option is worth considering.

this is a mess in the making... just go buy the cart at gamestop used and return before the 7 days is up, cost will be $0

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

shipping costs to member to member is probably about $3 for first class + envelope, then you figure 3-4 day waiting period for shipping times, 20 people did this they could be waiting months for the cart...

Oh? And exactly which US "gamestop" has this game in stock?

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Sounds like you want to buy the game and have other people pay for it.
Of course, why didn't I think that someone would accuse me of this...
How would this be to my benefit when I would be paying up front, and each successive member would only be putting in a small amount towards the total?
If anything, I would be the one out the cost if someone decided to keep the cart and never respond.

Great idea if everyone did as they should, but in the end, it's a pyramid scheme. Eventually you'll reach enough people that if they are paying for more than shipping, you've exceeded the cost of the game and are now profiting. You are also relying on people you have never met and know nothing about. Great idea, but it's just hard to get it to work.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Im' also curious as to which game this is.

It's a Japanese import.

You are absolutely right. It would require everyone to honor their word.
As for the costs involved, the whole point of this thread is to gauge the interest. Once that time comes, we would know how many are on the list and can split the $/member accordingly.
I will refuse to accept any payment beyond the cost of the cart. If the payments DO exceed the cost of the game, I will not accept them. OR we could figure out how to disperse the refunds to everyone in the chain.

That would prob be more complicated than needed, so a better option would be to donate the funds to say the ReSwitched team, or even a charity.
Like I said in the OP, this was just an idea. Thought it would be a good way to involve the community and give some of us a chance to build trust.

Edit: Oh, and everything is to be kept open in a thread for public view. This way everyone is held accountable.
Everything except shipping addresses and personal info.

Idea is decent on paper, but doesn't account for certain kinds of people. All would be well and good until someone just kept the cartridge for themselves without forwarding it to the next person. You could go after them for it, but at how much cost? I just don't see it running as smoothly in practice as you describe.

Buddy, I'm all for this, but good luck getting it to work. It only takes one bad apple to ruin it for everyone, and there's little to no accountability on here, being as we don't actually know each other's names and addresses. If you can get it to work nicely, then hats off to ya!

Can't someone do something out of the kindness of their heart, without being ridiculed and accused when they have done nothing prior to cause alarm?
This was one way I though I could contribute and be of help. Guess that is not good enough for some.

I do find if comical that there are people on here that would trust sending their $300 console to be modded or soldered, but they are skeptical of an arrangement that they could lose (at max) $8 over.
Nothing against the gents that are offering those services (and have built trust on this site). But, those threads WERE against the rules here, and were allowed to stay up despite being posted in the wrong section.

My comment above is just to prove the point that many on this site refuse to use logic before throwing out baseless accusations and slander.
I do welcome criticism, as it keeps us in check. That said, I wanted to offer something that could benefit others here. Is that so wrong?

Yeah I am pretty sure this entire thread is against the rules...
Please show me which rule I am infringing upon.

You had me up until this part. You want everyone to share equally in the cost, except for yourself. Is that like a finders fee? Just shell out the money for one game, god damn you. Nintendo deserves at least that much. The entire Nintendo catalog is not worth a single dollar to you?
