I believe I have either bricked or straight up broke my New 2ds XL, I received this along with an R4i Gold 3ds plus flashcart (this is the one that ntrboot already injected onto it) on December 24th, 2017 as a gift. I then proceeded to install Homebrew in accordance with 3ds.guide. I was on Luma 9.0, 11.6-39U, Boot9Strap 1.3, and GodMode9 1.5.1. Luma had crashed a couple of times prior to the "brick" but only involved retroarch problems. On Jan 7th, I was driving home with my family from a vacation while playing Tomodachi Life when the battery went out on me after playing for some time. I then get home to charge my console the next day and it charged. But, when trying to turn the console on, the power LED would blink for a second before shutting off. I then tried booting it with the flashcart only, Which resulted in a power LED that stayed lit, but the screens nor sound were functional. Being as impatient as I am, I then proceeded to try and boot into gm9 with and without my sd card, it didn't work. I also tried this with recovery mode (L R A START) and I also tried to reinstall b9s with SafeB9Sinstaller. I tried to boot into luma config... nothing. The screens still wouldn't turn on. Then, I figured that since my Flashcart already had ntrboot, I could format my sd card and start from scratch, so I refollowed 3ds.guide, but still nothing works. When my SD card is in the console, the power LED blinks blue. Without the SD card, the LED stays a solid blue, but without anything coming from the screens. I've checked my SD card for errors to no avail. If anyone can help, please do. The only way out of this from my searching that I've done so far is to hardmod, which appears to be much harder and riskier on the 2dsxl. It is also apparently possible that it may be a physical problem with the 3ds, such as a battery problem, which would cause me to send it to nintendo, but I can't because there is homebrew flashed to the systems nand. Does anyone know if maybe there is a third party company that could repair it? Thanks for reading and please help if possible, not afraid to hear that I can't do anything about it.(My SD Card is FAT32)

Could you do me a favor. Take a video of the 3ds attempting to boot up and failing. If it's a soft on and off, it's an SD card issue; possibly a fake one. If it's a hard on and off, it could be a hardware issue such as a torn ribbon cable. I know what that looks like since I've had both happen to me.

Replacing the battery is actually quite easy, all you need is a Tri-Wing screwdriver and another battery, though that is probably not the problem.

. I've tried 3 different microSDs so I don't necessarily think it has to do specifically with them, but idk.
2. Im becoming desperate, i have already asked discord homebrew and they couldnt help, so maybe.
3. I have replaced luma several times to no avail.

Did you check your "boot.firm" archive in the root of the microSD card?
Possibly it is corrupted and you need to reinstall Luma3DS.
Try it with the lastest Luma version (not the lastest commit).

First... are you calling homebrew to... homebrew or to Custom Firmware? I'm asking because gettin' homebrew is not the desired end to NTRBoot and MagnetHax.
Second... being desperate doesn't help.
Third... can you boot from the flashcard with NTRBoot?

Technically, I installed Luma among other things like FBI and Anemone, etc, so CFW would be correct, thank you for correcting me, and sadly no, NTRboot still does nothing. Let me clarify , when I say the screen is black, it is black, there is no backlight or anything, which leads me to think that something more internal may be going on, yet im not sure.

Well... no NTRBoot means is something from the hardware then... because even with the NAND damage brick and other types of bricks you can boot to NTRBoot, I thing.

Does it turn on, blue light glows for a second, then it turns off? If so that just means it can't find boot.firm

H2testw came back with no errors. I think at this point its more possibly a hardware issue, NTRboot does nothing. If that is the case, I'd need to wait for a new battery, cuz im broke af right now

I have doubts it is a bad battery not with a handheld as new as yours. Even if that was the case, you could still work on the N2DSXL with the charger plugged in.

* Charger plugged in with battery still inside its compartment.

Could it be a detached ribbon cable by chance? or a cable that gives power to the rest of the system? Because i just tried to reinstall b9s and while i couldnt get into safeb9sinstaller there were two new files inside the b9s folder...

I went through h2testw twice with no errors. boot.firm is still on the sd card im using.
Edit: reread your post. So it stays on with no SD in but black screens? That's so weird. Not broken SD reader or you wouldn't have different behaviour with it in or not in. It would make sense if it were the other way around i.e solid blue light with the SD in and blinking on then off with the SD out. I'll keep thinking

Can you definitely definitely not get anything to show on the screens no matter what you do?

If you're talking about
firm0_enc.bak
firm1_enc.bak

They're suppose to there:

https://gbatemp.net/threads/n3ds-wont-boot-after-boot9strap-installation.475831/page-3
...

Note that firm0firm1.bak and sector0x96.bak in the /boot9strap/ folder on your SD card are only needed in the event of a failed boot9strap install. Once you have installed successfully, you can delete the entire boot9strap folder.
...

^ I wouldn't delete them. I think that guide is old.

Try replacing that boot.firm, boot.3dsx, entire Luma folder, and boot9strap folder (keep the two .bak files though). Also, did you try those steps mentioned in post #9?

Nothing, Its become increasingly frustrating. It doesn't blink without the SD card and stays on, but nothing works.

I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it

@BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.
