The nvidia shield tv has 1gb less ram then the switch so not all games would work however i think most indie games would work. botw may also work since it was on the wii u and the wii u had 2gb ram.

Not out of the box, if that is what you mean.
The architecture is quite similar (there is probably some different hardware for handling JoyCons, etc., not present / different on the Shield), but the OS is totally different.
You would need at least some kind of complex compatibility layer software in the fashion of Wine.

its not similar it has the same processor.
Yes, because of this it is similar. The same a PC and a MAC are similar, the same a PS4 and an XBOX1 are similar.

PS: A system is not only composed of GPU and CPU.

Running the switch OS on a Nvidia Shield would be kinda like running a hackintosh system I think.

I think a custom bootloader would have to be written as well as custom drivers and patches to disable some security checks (Probably)

Then you need and actual way of installing the OS, I have no idea how you would do that.
Maybe if you could extract the unencrypted NAND from a Switch, Apply some changes and patched to it and then flash it onto the shield.

Im just fooling around with ideas and im pretty sure there must be much more done that what I mentioned.

Anyway, I think it might be possible one day if someone qualified works on it and both systems are completely hacked (all layers)

But I think it would be far more interesting to do it the other way around

The cpu is not the only thing in the system. There is much more hardware at play that makes them incompatible. You can't just push the OS from one to the other. So they are similar because they have the same processor, but the systems are still not the same.

Go to china, buy new shield tv, download some games in china, go back to your country.
Yes there are/will be ports of switch games on shield tv in china. If you root your shield and install the apk you should be fine.

You are funny. Yeah.. ABSOLUTELY NO!

You are funny for saying so, I dont see the impossiblitily. Theoretically, it could work by making a hackintosh like solution or creating a comtibility-layer similar to how gamecube games are running on the Wii U.
I dont think you have much insight in technology if you simply say "ABSOLUTELY NO!" without any explanation

Even if we assume the SoC's are identical, the missing 1G of unified ram would create a huge problem. IIRC half of the Wii U's 2GB was reserved for the operating system though that was at launch, and the Switch's is much more minimalistic, perhaps in effort to dedicate as much system resources to games as possible. At any rate, it would be very difficult and I doubt there would be much interest, and you'd likely only be able to run games that are already available on other platforms :/

No explanation need because Nintendo switch and Nvidia shield tv are absolutely different. Sure, the architecture is quite similar but the games are not. :)

The X1 chip in the shield and switch are identical. A mac can run Windows with bootcamp. So it is possible.

The next question is can we emulate Vita games because the X1 is an ARM processor. Not much emulation needed!

That's not correct. Firstly bootcamp loads windows os on Mac hardware. Second, Mac OS only runs on specific PC hardware. Also the hardware PC os run on essentially identical hardware layouts, as in they all have a x86 cpu, and it is connected in similar ways to the other hardware. Switch SoC is not connected to hardware in the same way that the shield TV is. Cross compatibility won't work the same as macOS on PC.

Also the hardware PC os run on essentially identical hardware layouts, as in they all have a x85 cpu, and it is connected in similar ways to the other hardware. The SHIELD has an integrated Tegra X1 SoC
3 GB of LPDDR4 DRAM
16 gig eMMC.

The switch has NVIDIA Tegra X1-based SoC
Samsung K4F6E304HB-MGCH 2 GB LPDDR4 DRAM (x2 for a total of 4 GB)
32 Gig eMMC

I can't claim with 100% they are the same. They would seem to be very similar. The the main things that could be different is the chipset and OS. However, one would wonder why Nintendo would develop their own chipset when they could just use the one Nvidia is using in the shield. Seems like nvidia would know the SOC the best.

All computers, tablets and smartphones "connect in the same way". A processor is connected to a motherboard that has the chipset and other intergraded devices. So I am not entirely sure what you are talking about.

Time will tell but I would say it is plausible.

I think that it would be crazy hard, mainly because not online the Shield has 1GB less, but because the OS on the Nintendo Switch has been designed as efficient for games as possible, and that is something that Android doesn't have, Android uses way more loosely the RAM than a specific OS for a specific Device because it's made to be used in many machines, that is why Apple can do the same with fewer resources on their devices, because they design iOS around them, and not backwards.

So you have to think that the Switch has 4GB RAM+Specific OS vs 3GB RAM+Not-as-efficient OS.
If you can make it run something that isn't Android maybe you could have some success, and most AAA Games won't work, but to make that possible you need a lot of skilled people, the Switch to be pretty much completely hacked and with a lot of reverse engineering on how the OS even works with each game and being able to get and use your own backups of the games in the first place.

Is it possible? Barely.
Is it practical? No.
Does somebody want to work on this? Maybe, some people with the skill that may want challenges, but I really doubt it.

The NVidia Shield sold poorly compared to the Switch, there isn't a lot of people that have them, they aren't making them anymore and they cost $199 MSRP, I don't think that a lot of people that don't have the Switch would prefer to buy a machine that costs 2/3 the device itself to run their games poorly, but that's just me.
