Hello, guys, I've been doing a lot of readings but still don't get a clear picture. So if I bought and installed a game from eShop, and I want to "extract" or dump the whole game onto my PC's HDD, how do I do that? I understand for a disc game we use Disc2App but this one is digital and is installed on my Wii U.

I saw there are tutorials on DDD, but I also heard that DDD is too old? What homebrew apps does everyone use right now?

Thanks in advance.

Question for ya, why do you want to dump the digital download? You can always just download it again from eshop for free

Hmm...I'm still lost. It looks like tik2sd and jnustool can extract the title key and the ".tik" file? Right now I already have the Wii U common key, the game's title key, and the ".tik" file (848 bytes). As for wup decrypt, it sounds like you decrypting the WUD files, which are the "ready to install" files, like the ones you got the USB helper. None of these is related to dumping my digital version game to my PC.

I've done that before, maybe she/he needs the files in extrated form for mods and stuff.

Bingo! Cucholix you read my mind!

Hi Kafluke nice to see you again. Well yeah for the USB helper part I already did that yesterday, that's how I got the .tik, .tmd and the game title key, and on top of doing the backups, I wish to go into more details about this and try something. I think there are steps like "decrypting", "encrypting (repacking into the ready to install state?)" and stuff, but I'm still new to this. The Wii U homebrew looks way more complicated than PS3.

I'm willing do research and reading on my own (been doing that for days) but I think I need some help, too, here and there...

There are two "formats" in which you can store your games:
  • wup (apps files) (encrypted)
  • decrypted (commonly known as loadiine) <- this one you need for mods
Once you are done modding the files, you can pack (encrypt) with nuspacker, and make them WUP again.

What other way you want to "dump" your games?

I think the WUP (apps files) is the format like when you just got a game off USB Helper, right? And the decrypted format is obtained through CDecrypt and JWUDTool? Where you get all the content, meta, code, save folders. I still don't know why people have moved away from DDD.

I read in another thread that they were trying to patch the files called "archive00.lnk and lens5_cafe.rpx"? I don't know the file structures of Wii U games, and I think these are unique files for Fatal Frame 5, but that's the form I'm interested in.

I see. I thought "Loadiine" was nothing but "playing your game on your SD card".

So how do I extract the game from the console?

And also, if I repack the game and convert it into the WUP form again with the save folder included, what would happen when I install the game?

Yes
WUP (apps files) is the format you got from Wii U USB Helper (although there's a new feature that allows decrypt them after downloading).
Decrypted format is the meta/content/code folders correct.

DDD is slow, it uses ftp protocol, so good luck transfering anything over 1GB

The file structure of Wii U games depends on the game, but it's more/less like this:
  • Code folder contains the main executable file "something.rpx", and an "app.xml" file that tells the game ID, group ID and what kind of app it is.
  • Content folder contains all the assets needed by a game, music, voice samples, textures, etc... it obviosly depends on the game, there's not a single format for it, sometimes they are packed using Nintendo internal tools, so you need to find the right extractor for it (if it exist), other times they are common .mp4 .ogg files, Fatal Frame 5 movies have .mp4 format for example and they are not packed.
  • Meta folder contains the splash banner/icon images, boot sound, game name displayed on menu, common e-manual, title ID, if it use GamePad, and other flags, etc...

Thank you very much, that's some info I tried really hard to find.

One last question for today: back to the first post, what tool do I use for dumping my games to my PC? I know at this point it's probably not necessary, but still I want to know about it and try it. I think I'm going to need it at some point.

Listen to @cucholix! This user knows what's up.

Decrypt them with Wii u USB Helper.
Play with the files however you want.
Put the game back on SD in loadiine format.
Fire up loadiine and test.
When your happy with it package the files back up into WUP format.
Copy files into a folder in SD:\install folder.
Install on Wii u with WUP Installer gx2 and test.
Share!

I will add a question because I have sort of the same question.
I have lego Dimensions installed and have downloaded all extra packs.
These can not be downloaded with USB helper... Only the base game and some dlc is available but not all.

How can I extract this game including ALL the extra content so that later I can install it on another wiiu (without Downloading it all again)
