Hacking Why is every major dev of the Switch scene pissed about Xecuter's work?

Hey man, actually appreciate the way you handled that post.

Just the entitled attitudes really. As soon as a potential promise is whispered of for people to get what they want faster, suddenly it's a shit flinging contest against the people that they've been following for damn near a year, waiting for releases and free things from. TX doesn't really bother me, it's a bummer that piracy will probably be an issue with the console knowing their track record yeah, but it doesn't invalidate the work done by Reswitched as a whole. If their chip does open up homebrew possibilities, what toolchain do you think people will be using to write the homebrew? You think TX has a fully fledged SDK for the switch available alongside whatever they're planning? Nah, they'll still need backing tool support and libraries.

It's just funny how the users here immediately turn into little bastards at the drop of the hat, as if the work that's already been done by the very devs they're throwing insults at aren't still going to be integral to the life of their community. They have no idea what kind of work or consideration goes into this kind of thing at all, but as soon as someone else can give them their lollipop they're right on the hate train.

It's been this way for a long time. Longer than a year. Team SALT for the 3DS was a hilarious stirrup. I'm of the belief that the community deserves nothing. It's a bit pompous, I know. Whether a dev releases something public or not isn't even my issue. The general attitude and entitlement on their end doesn't help anyone either. It's a two way street. I'm just along for the ride.

its not a paradox.
spending 50 dollars to get hundreds , if not thousands of dollars worth of games for free is worth it
Yeah I was thinking that as I was typing. For the 3DS it's basically buying an 64GB sd card being like 250 games... I pirate a lot if you couldn't tell lol.

Oh god that was a nightmare. And then they wondered why people in the 3ds scene are toxic as fuck.

That's no joke. Oh my lordy.

I'm ecstatic over the thought of a mod chip. Mostly because of the push it'll have on development and growth of the scene.

I sincerely wish the Switch scene does not get like this. I really wish.
Hopefully a certain form of harmony could exist this time. A human being can dream.
But seeing how this thread has gone, my hopes are very little.

What was the deal with Team SALT and SaltFW/CakeFW (i think there was a saltfw)
SaltFW was separate and actually really well received. I don't remember what Team SALT named their CFW. It was endless drama. It's actually why I lost respect for their team. I don't care how talented you are, if you're an asshole you're an asshole.

Programmers being doesn't make an asshole any less than an asshole, unfortunate, but true.

I agree it's a two way street. But if someone's making you a nice dinner, you get shitty with them that it's not being made fast enough, and they don't respond in the way you like, it doesn't make them the bad guy. They're humans too, and having work be unappreciated, yet still more being demanded from you can turn a tide quickly.

You're right that it's been this way for a long time. I've been around on here since 2005 or maybe 06? Whenever the PSP swaploit took off, here and qj.net. People were impatient then too. But maybe it's rose-colored glasses, but I don't remember a level of such indignant and entitled attitude back then. People were excited for releases and asking a lot of "but when?", but they weren't talking shit about the developers because they didn't release fast enough. Even funnier is that back then, there was so little transparency between the devs. DarkAlex and the like just randomly dropped shit when they were done. Now, there's a discord you can directly observe to know how things are progressing. To learn what goes into it. To pick up skills of your own. But even with those improvements to the non-contributing user's accessibility, the attitudes somehow became worse. Maybe this site just draws the lowest hanging fruit of the crowds, or maybe the attitudes have really just shifted. I have no clue, but it bothers me that instead of a community of people creating things like in past homebrew scenes, we have a community of angry little fuckers that just want things for free and grab the pitchforks at any opportunity.

Was the drama like a member was being rude to people?

I'll grab my pitchfork because eating a steak with a salad fork is too cliche.

You're right though. I don't remember as much drama back in those days. People were actually rather friendly if I remember correctly. I joined this site back in the R4 days, but lurked for PSP info.

It was back and forth. Not even just one person.

TL;DR reply: they kept almost all of their work private, showing off, but hardly giving anything to public, which eventually frustrated the entire community with high expectations but nothing they could use, because moral concerns that turned people against each others.
Showing off is nice, but I could agree that the "I have it but you can't" attitude did not make everyone happy. Then again, it's a 2 sided road. The community response did not really give any wish to give them their work. And that is also perfectly understandable. Who wants to give something to impatient people calling you shit? No one, really.

Shorter TL;DR: it was a cancer.

Oh god that was a nightmare. And then they wondered why people in the 3ds scene are toxic as fuck.
I am going with because the 3ds has no games (all the good non Nintendo devs buggered off to android and IOS) and that only left arguing over largely inconsequential differences in free custom firmwares, not even having any games to play to distract it.

As for homebrew this time around I am not expecting another xbox, GBA, DS, PSP or Wii. The hardware has more promise than the 3ds but will likely be equalled or bettered by general devices before too long, and in terms of raw functionality we now have largely open devices in portable and TV form factors, ones devs can even readily sell their works in.

This is also valid. I mean, the Shield K1 is a viable choice for a tablet for emulation and all. . With each new iteration, the general hardware is more and more powerful. It'll be a convenience thing with the Switch though.

I think the best would be wait till they release more info, if u are on 3.0.0 just wait a bit long.
I agree with you.
Wait and see.
It's really not necessary to throw pitchforks at each others. This is not how a community should behave.

Except, it's not, they're not selling pirated/illegally copied games. Homebrew/hacking != piracy, get it right. Piracy is the distribution of illicit copies of a medium, how in the blazes of hell is installing a mod chip pirating or copying a game. It isn't FFS.

People are so f*cking salty, we need bleach to clean it up.
You obviously didn't get the fact that this would lead to piracy, and now that I think about it, you're paying for homebrew too
