Hacking My PS3 YLOD while updating to 4.82 in order to downgrade

So I digged out my old PS3 phat.. checked if i could intall custom FW.. then went to update to 4.82.. while it was updating the console YLOD..

I have just orded a YLOD fix kit but from experience they do not last very long..

Does anyone know if switching off the console while updating Bricks the console or something else..

I imagine all of the "Do not turn the power off" warning messages are there for a reason.

all ps3 systems will eventually get a Ylod because the solder doesn't use lead because it is seen as a kids toy hence why there is no lead in the console. If there was lead in the solder then it wouldn't crack so easily with a temperature difference but without it it does easily. The only way to prevent a ylod is a custom fan control.

Whats the recommended fan speed for ps3 slim?
I heard that using fan control other then default is bad. Is that true?

yeah because the solder contains zero lead. Set dynamic to 65 in webman.

This is the reason I bought a super slim even though they aren't currently cfwable.

The phats are all on their last legs, the slims have nearly all had hard lives after running for years with loads of dust inside whereas most supers have barely been used, are the latest revision of design and run whisper quiet. Games are cheap enough anyway but cfw would be nice for psn games and ripping my games to the drive and once the exploit is sorted it'll be happy happy joy joy all round.

i kept a spare 60gb launch day ps3 new in box for 4 years until the 3.14 psjailbreak was reverse engineered and teensy micro controller boards were the ticket to hack em. i then only used the bd drive to rip games to the hdd/usb to try to save wear n tear and heat. i always ran custom fan controlls and sometimes a ps3 innercooler. the first ps4 ylod so i redid the thermal paste to artic5 silver. then i did the seecond barely use ps3. both still YLOD. both while playing "heavy games" like uncharted 3, last of us, mgs4, or games that "pushed the hardware to its limits"

Just a small advice, you don't need to downgrade to 3.55 to install CFW, you can do it on 4.82 directly.
I don't understand why people are downgrading their PS3 to 3.55 to able to install CFW.

thanks for all the replies.. I was actually updatimg the console to 4.82 in order to install CFW.. any advice on how I should repare this? I have a workstation and have repaired a shedload of xbox360s back in the day but from experience the repair does not last very long.. I can not reball as i do notthink i could do it correctly.

You might try to reflow but it probably wouldn't last long. You might try this for reball.

I have a reflow station.. I can reflow no problem but reballing is a bit beyond me I think.. unless I dig out the underheater.. thank you for the link to the reballing service but it is a little expensive me feels.. maybe

A refurbishing doesn't worth in 2018. Working phat go for 40$. Better get a newer one keep the old for spare parts.

However in my opinion a Slim with proper thermal paste is better than a phat

CECHG04 (phat) 65°C Cell | ~ 60 °C RSX @ 55-65% Fan Speed (can hear it while play) | Power Consume (full load): ~ 135Watt
CECHC04 (phat) 81°C Cell | 64°C RSX @ 85-90% Fan Speed (aka. helicopter) | Power Consume(full load): ~ 203Watt


Edit: Offical syscon fan config goes to "panic mode" aka "95% fan speed" at 86°C (System is overheated message appears too)

A reballed fat is Always better then a slim . When the consoles are reballed they used solder with lead in it so it will be as good as YLOD proof when a slim isn't thanks to still using the shitty solder that will crack over time

I did not switch it off, it YLOD while updating
