Ah, a bit far. I'm in the UK. I've not seen any evidence that people are willing to pay more for an exploitable console yet. I obviously don't want to make a loss, but I'm ok selling it so that it covers my costs. If I put it on ebay I'd have to increase the price to cover the ebay fees, which is why I was just going to return it if I didn't need it.

Obviously if in the next few days there is a buying frenzy on ebay of 3x to 5x the price then I would reconsider.

It's happening already, two exploitable consoles for $800 and $750 respectively.

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...do+swi.TRS2&_nkw=nintendo+switch+3.0&_sacat=0

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-S...787967&hash=item440eb81c0e:g:YUUAAOSwTf9ZXnt5

A douche move from the scalpers' part, to say the least, and it's only going to get worse as 3.0.0 consoles will get rarer and rarer, I'm afraid. No way in hell should anyone have to pay that much for a Switch, it only enables scalping. *sigh* Perhaps it'd be best for me to forget about that avenue and find something to sell to offset the costs, I don't expect the prices to get any better.

is this how the homebrew launcher will look like ????

It's pretty much guaranteed it won't look exactly like that.

The asking price is high, but the selling price is not, the highest one with 3.0 mentioned in the title on ebay.com was on december 16th for $360.85 Nintendo Switch Super Mario Odyssey Wired Pro Controller FW 3.0 for HomeBrew

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-S...125635&hash=item3afac0779c:g:igQAAOSwBkRaNFMJ

Which could just as easily have sold to someone trying to get hold of a Switch for Christmas.

It's not hit the UK yet, maybe there are more <= 3.0 consoles or less hackers.

Not gonna hold my breath. Unless I can find someone willing to trade something for an exploitable Switch, like my hacked Wii U with CFW, I don't know. Heck, maybe even my laptop from 2011.

Someone just sold a 1.0.0 in Australia relatively cheap. (508.40 USD/£375.83)

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Super-Ra...958542&hash=item2f1215b415:g:axkAAOSwzRlaIw5a

Ok it's slightly more than you can buy a switch for, but when you take into account the 10-20% fee that ebay + paypal takes then the seller isn't making a huge profit. Certainly not 3x - 5x. Plus that is for a 1.0 which is supposedly more hackable.

If switch hacking kicks off then maybe the market will support a higher price, but right now the people selling at extreme prices are just not selling. With Christmas over the market won't be pushed up by guilt purchases.

Yeah, I don't think I'm going to go that route, I have no way of paying for it in full outright, at least, not without getting a more stable job. As it stands, the only way would be for trading one with something of equal or greater value, like again, I've a Lenovo laptop from 2011 that still works fine. But unfortunately, I doubt anyone who has an exploitable Switch, would want to part with it, at least, not without exorbitant price gouging. I'm starting to feel sick to myself.

I'd only expect to make a profit if the switch scene is worth buying into, but that isn't clear yet. The risk for me would be holding on to it and switch scene becoming worse than the DSi scene and losing money on it when I eventually shift it.

I don't even have the money to get a second one, given that I'm in debt thanks to a college career that never took off, and a dead end job whose boss won't give me full time hours, makes me want to just quit and find a real job. If I had the money, I'd have gotten a second Switch yesterday.

Well you could sell your existing one, it still has some value. But you do have to make the decision not to play any new games. Not a problem for me as I'm not going to be buying any switch games (beyond pokemon tournament dx and I doubt I'll play it).

If the exploit release doesn't come soon then I might not even bother keeping it, there are too many other things I want to play with.

Not an option, my brother paid halfsies on the Switch, so he's a co-owner and has game saves on it, so it's not an option. I'd rather trade something else, i.e something I don't use, like my old laptop still in good condition. I've only used it once in the past five months.

Where do I find our firmware version?
The only info I can find online says it's listed under the spot it says update available (like in the pic someone posted earlier) but mine doesn't say it there. It says there is an update but no current firmware listed

From the first page...

Yes, you push and hold both volume keys while powering on, and keep holding them until the recovery menu loads. It will display the firmware version immediately, then you do nothing and just press the power button to power off (this also clears any pending updates).
I had to do this for one system and was able to return it without having touched the actual console tablet directly. I was concerned about accidentally scratching the screen, rendering it unreturnable.

BTW I watched the Q&A section at the end of https://media.ccc.de/v/34c3-8941-console_security_-_switch and it's pretty unclear whether you need to update to 3.0. You certainly need either 2.0 or Tetris to get into a browser, which if you don't have either then your only option might be 3.0. But they only skirted around the answer and failed to answer the direct question about why 3.0 and not 2.0, one of them smiled when the question was asked. Maybe they just want everyone to buy pokemon tournament dx, like when a respected hacker suggested that hannah montana was an upcoming exploit game on the DSi for a joke.

It's me. And it's on the way.
I have a couple more. Just listed one at 578 usd
I paid 70 usd more on purchasing rest ones than the one I just sold.
But may check if new year 10% off code whether available in your country.
Get in quick if anyone wants.

This is why I bought 2 switches at launch. Both still on 1.0. If you think they're rare now just wait until the hacks get developed for the end user

quite a tight bend on that 8pin->12pin adapter in my case, which is the worst case scenario, but i made sure it was fully seated after plugging everything in and bending the cable so it shouldn't come unseated by itself since i pre-stressed the cable

@Psionic Roshambo i didn't go amd for one specific reason, the AI performance is way behind nvidia

oh yeah also DLSS is a pretty solid reason to go nvidia since fidelityfx is kinda crap

and now with the rtx video upscaling, and sdr->hdr conversion, even more reason to go nvidia

amd is a bit cheaper though

Cheaper and they are less stingy with the RAM not a big issue now but I can imagine in a yard or two things might be different

    Year not yard lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
the vram is one advantage when it comes to AI but ends up being slower even with that and really AI is the only use case that needs more than 12gb vram right now

    Interesting lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think I watched a video where two games at 4K where eating just over 16GB of RAM and it's the one case where the 7900XT and XTX pulled ahead (minus RTX of course)
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb

  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
