It sucks because there isn't going to be a way for it to become as cheap as the 2ds in a few years. Also its to big to fit in pockets and i also liked the 3ds two screen.

The Switch isn't Nintendo's "permanent" console nor is it a replacement for the 3DS family, so I'm not sure I see the argument here
I feel like the Switch is just them testing the waters. We'll probably see a handheld/home console combo.. So, yeah, I'm not sure.

They said the ds was not going to replace the gba they aren't going to say if its going to replace the 3ds or not but once every one moves over the the switch the 3ds will be discontinued. They say its not a replacement on purpose to get more 3ds sales then they move all the big franchises on the 3ds to the switch. But the good thing about it is you don't have to buy two systems like the 3ds and the wii u to play all of nintendos newest games.

I don't think it would be too difficult to launch a "Switch Lite" which has permanent controllers and other cost saving/miniaturizing features.

Replace may be a word not best suited for. Replace probably means with intent to remove the latter from existence. Not many people actually intend to replace things, people still keep classic systems simply cause there is merit in them. Even with stuff like modern console emulation of older games, virtual console, and console backwards compatibility, they don't replace the original simply cause it can be considered irreplaceable. The only way to replace them is to make a faithful replication of the system in question then remarket it. (Sell a newer SNES able to play all existing carts and more) GBA SP "replaces" GBA since it does provide more portable feel and with it's own backlight and rechargeable battery. Does it mean people won't still buy the original? No, is just another option to people who wanted something different.

Replace is a word that perhaps also comprehended differently, successor is the more commonly used word. The wii u is the successor to the wii, the super nintendo is the successor to the NES. People will still very much rather have them both than "One over the other" The only real way to replace a system is to do everything the last one did and more. If wii U played gamecube games like wii originally did when released with no issues at all (I MEAN OFFICIALLY NOT WITH HOMEBREW), then it would very much can be considered replacing the gamecube and wii. The switch is simply a successor to the past systems nintendo has done combining the variety of things they have done so far.

To be fair, the DS was a GBA v2... Didn't exactly REPLACE it. Just coexisted with it until the GBA was pointless.

I only ever bring my 3DS on longer trips when I have packing with me that it wouldn't matter if it's a 3DS or a Switch really. I also see huge upside with one united platform with all Nintendo's games on it, if that were to happen. It's hard to predict what they'll do; I think they will realease a cheaper Switch Mini sometime in the comming years though.

Yeah, the Switch is too big for me to carry around. It's too big for a portable and it's weak compared to other home consoles. As long as it gets games, power doesn't really matter, but it doesn't look like 3rd parties are truly on board right now.

?

Just out of mild curiosity, at what point would you say that 3rd party developers ARE on board?

I see it has a huge plus that all games they release will be on one console and I don't have to buy 2 systems. Plus my 3DS XL never really fit in comfortably in my pocket, I only really did that in the GBA micro / DS lite era. I did want the n3DS for it's smaller size, but never upgraded from the 3DS XL.

I could see Nintendo releasing a Switch Mini, but unless it is the DS lite size, and can still be used on the TV so I could sell the current Switch, I doubt I'd upgrade.
