Hacking Thinking of getting a PSTV -- does it work well for psp/ps1 backups, including rumble support?

Thinking about finally taking the plunge with a Vita and I decided to go with the TV version. I'm mainly wanting to use it for psp and psx backups but being able to play some Vita backups would be nice too. I was curious about how "full-featured" the experience is? Does it play the backups as accurately as a psp or handheld vita, and does it provide things like rumble support for psx and vita games? Up until now, I've been using my Nvidia Shield TV to emulate psp and psx but android emulation isn't perfect and it doesn't support rumble. I figured the PSTV would work well as a more definitive psx/psp box.

Anyway, just wanted to hear some opinions on how well the PSTV works for those purposes before I make the decision to get one. Thanks in advance for the info.

Adrenaline works great with PSP/PX1 backups, not sure about rumble though.
Remember you need the PSTV to be on 3.60. If you buy it new, it'll be guaranteed to be on 3.60.

Glad to hear that :) I googled about the rumble support and someone claimed that it worked for them, so I guess that answers that question too (I'd still love some first hand accounts on it though, to confirm it).

I was also wondering about the "activation" thing: is it still necessary to use another device like a PS3 to do that? I only have a PS4 myself, but I have a friend with a PS3 that I might be able to borrow if necessary.

Thanks for the help!

Awesome, thanks for confirming it! Great to hear that activation isn't necessary anymore, but out of curiosity: are there any benefits to activating it if you can?

And yeah, I'll definitely be getting a new one myself. They're selling for $60 on amazon right now, brand new (I was honestly surprised at how cheap they are).

All brand new PSV/PSTV models are on 3.60 or below with the exception of the new Red and Silver Japanese PSV models

There have been plenty of reports of black USA PSV above 3.60.... There was a guy who bought 2 on amazon and both were above 3.60

I've never seen any reports of a verified brand new Vita on 3.60+ sans those two JP colors ever. All of the reports that I've seen of these "supposed 3.61+" consoles have been from third party sellers, all of which are more than likely to have taken a console and updated it prior to selling. The only sellers on Amazon who have Vitas in stock are all third party, so I'm basically 99% convinced that's what happens. Sony basically stopped production on US/EU Vitas before 3.60/3.61 came out, those two previously mentioned JP colors were produced after 3.61.

I love my PSTV. I use a 128GB USB thumb drive for the storage, and a DS4 controller (DS3 works, but feels cheap and I hate the d-pad).

I just played Through AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) on it, and I love it.
