There is no custom server for ct players, you need to play in the community.
I'm on 8.1.1, well that's not exactly true, I'm on the latest commit(8.1.1-cf8696a). Should I install the latest release instead(8.1.1)?
Update: Wow, thanks that did it! It was the latest commit, or maybe I just needed to reinstall luma. Either way I'll change my Multiupdater to just download the latest release.

Looks like there are some breaking changes in latest luma commit (custom sm module). Until it's fixed you will have to use 8.1.1 release. (Hopefully soon.)
So, I got everything installed on my SD card, patched romfs and all, and the CTGP7 app boots on my 3ds Homebrew menu, but after the startup code stuff shows up and seemingly finishes, both screens go black and hang. Can I please get some help?
Which entrypoint are you using? Which system version? Give as much info as possible.
With recent versions I've heard hans has become more inestable... Anyway, try opening other homebrew apps and exiting, then launching ctgp

Hans is very unstable in latest system versions. Try also launching the game from the hans app without ctgp-7 launcher.

- Added "warn items with LED" which will make the led blink when a blue shell is used.
- Disabled X+Y to open the NTR menu, an option to open that menu can be found in the ingame menu.
- Last enabled features and their proper settings are now saved between reboots.
- Home button disabled ingame due to memory limitations.
- Minor improvements and bugfixes.

CTRPF uses the system font, I don't know what you mean with glitches with LF-8 fonts.
