How do you activate the shaders?

EDIT: Nevermind I found it. These are all software "filters," not "shaders," but they are still interesting. Good news, I haven't seen Retroarch crash since I updated to 1.6.9 and started to only use "Load Content" and never use "Load Core" anymore. It is much more usable now without the crashes.

Sorry. I meant filters. I have no crashing issues with them off and I never use "load core". Have you tested them out?

1.6.9 is a great step forward with the shaders. Yes, they are limited and make some emulation laggy but I love them.... when they work. I am getting alot of crashing and freezing using them. Is everyone getting the same results?
So technically PSVITA can handle shaders only with NES and GBC emulation? lol

The OP links directly to the VPK (https://buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.6.9/playstation/vita/RetroArch.vpk), but it may be better to link to the release itself which also includes the RetroArch_data.7z file: https://buildbot.libretro.com/stable/1.6.9/playstation/vita/

I just Installed the 1.6.9 stable without having any RA on this memory card previously and couldn't get scanning to work (It would scan far quicker than expected and didn't create the collections/playlists).
I eventually found ux0:/data/retroarch/database/rdb (and other folders) had no contents, checked an older stable RA vita release and the VPK included these folders/files where as the 1.6.9 VPK does not.

If you're upgrading it likely wont matter, but on a fresh install it seems both are required.

EDIT: Cheers for the update

Well, yes for now but if Kernel access is achieved, I would expect things would really improve. Also, filters on 8-bit games shouldn't be knocked lol. They need it the most (specially gamegear and gbc!).

But RA 1.6.9 add assets and database in data/retroarch folder, are these heavey files necessary? Can i cancel them from app0 then? Too much space wasted...

I had not updated retroarch for a month or more, now when I updated to the latest nightly I don't see any of my icons on the xmb? There are no black squares no icons, just the lists of the different playlists. I had it personalized w different backdrops and such, I can still see all of them I just can't see the icons for the different systems nor any other icon. Can see the screenshots of the games fine as well.

you can blame two hurricanes cat 5 for no electricity instead lol
Now, how to fix it? I guess if not then I will have to put it back into default and reload the customization files into it I guess.

Is it normal for it to take several seconds to launch retroarch on vita? Also after select content and core it can take several seconds for game to start. I just wonder if I'm missing something cus pfba starts games very quickly for example.

Thanks

yes, arcade core take more time to load the game on mine as well. PFBA tends to be faster to load.

LOL anyway it looks like that new RA have icons of xmb in different location (not anymore in app0; instead in data/reatroarch path)
You have downloaded the retroarch data zip along the new build and copyied the retroarch folder in ux0/data?

For comparison it is taking be just over 1 minute just to launch retroarch. When I load content and select sonic and then launch with genesis core it takes over 40 seconds for game to start. How quick is it taking for others? Cheers

Thanks, I finally got it to work tonight, had to manually change the directory address of assets to ux0 instead of app0

7 sec to load retroarch and 7 sec to run sonic. Mine is customized w backgrounds that change and a bunch of playlists.

Either you programmed the SD card allocation size improperly or it could be your adapter failing. If its slow on just retroarch, reinstall from scratch

Thanks for response Carlanga. Uninstalled, deleted the data folder and bunch of core files that were in the root of data which I think was from the original release.

First time I start it it takes around 8 seconds. It says its saving config file to data/retroarch. So far so good but second time I startup I'm back to waiting over a minute. It must be something with the config (if I delete the config and startup.. back to 8 secs) but its just the default that get created :-( At the moment I am glad you have confirmed I should be getting better times so I know what to work to. Cheers

could be loading artwork or something else? Do you have playlists? Change to screenshots since they are smaller in size for example. At the beginning it was taking long to scroll playlists but after it loaded everything I guess it started to run down the playlist much faster.

So haven't checked on GBA emulation in months. Is it finally playable at full speed on vita? Don't mean psp mode with gba emulator.

VBA Next runs full speed with GBA games, or very close to it. Haven't tried any Pokemon games, but everything else I runs is only a few frames off from, if not at, fullspeed. It even has motion emulation for WarioWare Twisted so you can tilt your Vita and the game will act accordingly. Only problem I have with it so far is that the emulator crashes during Dribble & Spitz's epilogue in Twisted, but it still considers the stage cleared, though I don't know if you still get the stage clear souvenir reward or not.

Mostly wanted to play megaman battle network games. Last I checked 3 months ago, it ran near full speed, but had random stuttering every 5 seconds.
