Hi

It's been a really long time since I played a DS game let alone Pokemon. With the recent news in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon I wanted to get back to playing them. I am going to be purchasing a 2DS XL since I have no use for the 3D features(unless the 3DS system are superior in terms of battery and processor for games). Before I go ahead and purchase my 2DS XL what are some things I should know about flashcarts and what is the best one for the 2DS XL. When I had left I remember R4DS(?) was all the craze but not sure what happened to that

Most new consoles are on a system version shove 11.3, so he may need a flashcart. That guide is still the best to follow though.

OP: I recommend getting an R4i Gold 3DS RTS and following the section of https://3ds.guide that is labeled "ntrboot".

Yeah, 64GB is the perfect size. You can have a shitload of games installed, as well as a NAND backup with plenty of room to spare for updates and DLC.

Thank you for the help! I'll definitely look into these. Glad to see the community being so helpful even after being gone for 7 years+. :)

Also I wanted to ask, will the games I get have working multiplayer or is that not possible due to it being a ROM.
If you are talking about 3DS roms then yes you can use Wi-Fi or local wireless communications regardless if it's a real physical/digital paid version of the game or a ROM. A ROM is just an image of the game, functions are not removed from a ROM unless someone modifies the functions and what not inside the ROM with some type of software (Your chances of finding a modified ROM like that is very slim). Regarding Nintendo DS ROMS yes you can use Wi-Fi on those as well, HOWEVER you won't be able to use Nintendo's network services (DSi/Wii internet services ended a while ago). Instead you would need to either patch the ROM or use Action Replay cheats to bypass the old connection service the ROM tried to connect to. This requires a set of DNS addresses instead to connect to alternative services like AltWFC. Not all flashcarts support the use of Wi-Fi connections (example: The Acekard 2i) so that makes the hunt a little harder in terms of finding a flashcart. R4i SDHC 3DS RTS, R4i Gold 3DS RTS, R4i Gold 3DS Plus (RTS), SuperCard DSTWO, and SuperCard DSTWO+ are the only ones I know of that supports the use of Wi-Fi connections (AltWFC) (There may be others, I don't have any others to test with so I don't know).

Oh okay. I was intending on purchasing this one https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/7cc8o9/r4i_gold_3ds_plus_hybrid_flashcart_review/

Will that work for me? It doesn't happen to say RTS in the name though. Also I assume wireless capabilities will work on the 2DS games I play with this card

U won't be using a ROM aka .3ds files u will be using .cia installed games

Oh okay, I've been looking for sites but came up short. I plan on purchasing this https://www.reddit.com/r/3dshacks/comments/7cc8o9/r4i_gold_3ds_plus_hybrid_flashcart_review/

and was wondering if that would be good enough. Then I just follow the guide and hopefully it works.

If you look at the picture of an R4i Gold 3DS Plus (RTS) you will see "RTS" above the "R4i" name.

@Maximumbeans, Indeed. I've been working on getting this Infecutus chip to work on my PS2. But after soldering, I realised that a plastic piece was missing from the power ribbon cable to the power and eject buttons.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
Now I could go with soldering the contacts from the cable to the connector on the mobo, but doesn't sound like a good permanent solution.

Man, that's beyond my brain  I'm no good with hardware for now. I'd like to get into hardmods in future though

@Maximumbeans, Maybe start practice soldering. Get a cheap-ass soldering iron and follow some good YouTube tutorials.

Least my experience has gotten better than over a decade ago. My iron would constantly bump into components and break them.

Sounds good. I actually did soldering but like 16 years ago for school so uuuuh probably rusty haha
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@Maximumbeans, Same here. I did soldering at school from a teacher who I honestly liked since he had plenty of good electronics experience.
