Hulu comes to the Nintendo Switch

IMG_5471.PNG

Releasing with hardly any fanfare or notice, the video streaming app Hulu will be soon available on the Nintendo Switch eShop. It was listed alongside the games that were to be released today by Nintendo itself, and should be downloadable once the store refreshes at 12PM ET. This marks the first video streaming service for the console, as the Nintendo Switch did not launch with any media subscription apps.

In other news, Hulu comes to my toaster.

Seems like something that should have been done but nice. Just need YouTube and Netflix to fully get media streaming going.

I must say though, I don't know if it is just me but Nico Nico works like shit.
Perhaps the Japanese servers don't stream at a good speed to Germany or something.
Only thing I know is my experience with NicoNico on the Switch can be described as "buffering...buffering...buffering...dies."

Of course, that is not the point anyway.
it works like a dream here

Took them long enough.
Now let's hope Netflix, Youtube and a browser are on the way as well...
So we can use them for exploits :^)

Would rather have had Netflix be the first streaming media app, but at least this is a start. A sign for future apps I hope?

Netflix, Youtube, Crunchyroll, Please.

I've been hearing rumors about Netflix coming to the switch for a while now, so it's nice to see at least one other streaming service coming to the switch. Here's to hoping for netflix, YouTube, and many more to follow up with their own video streaming services on the switch!
Netflix said they have already developed the Switch app, "all that is preventing a release is the go-ahead from Nintendo itself".

Also, maybe Nintendo is making sure the app is 100% unexploitable, they don't want the possibility of an exploit and playing it safe for now. Just a guess.

Of course it's the one media streaming app i have no interest in. But at least this finally confirms they're actually coming, Netflix says their Switch version is ready and waiting, so I'm sure its just waiting for approval at this point. Just wish that process would hurry up, and I've not heard anything on a YouTube Switch version coming, but I'm sure it is, so if that could hurry up too, that'd be great.

Just tried it out. It's terrible to control. The layout is really nice but if you could actually USE it without a controller, it would be much better. No, you can't use the touchscreen.

wtf.

This app is pretty useless to be honest. When you're at home, you can use Hulu on your TV, so worthless. On the go, you'll need a mobile hotspot, meaning a smartphone, meaning you wouldn't need your Switch since you can watch Hulu through the app on said smartphone.

Only instance I think this will work is if you have a really old TV, no smartphone, and a small mobile hotspot router that Verizon sells for like $50, but for that money you could buy a crappy smartphone from Cricket or TruCaller, so yeah. But it's a nice effort.

You haven't been anywhere in several years.

And will you really be watching Hulu at Wal-Mart? No. And alot of restaurants/stores/places don't have public, free WiFi. And you have a smartphone anyway so....

That's cool. The Hulu app has piracy protection.

As mentioned, not everyone has a TV that can play Hulu or any streaming services for that matter. As long as you have a dock or something equivalent, you can make any TV a Hulu (and hopefully more) TV. Even if you were forced to use your smartphone hotspot, the Switch is most likely going have the bigger screen. You can also get a car mount, so now you don't even have to hold the Switch.

I still don't understand the need for this, you can get these kind of apps on a $30 Chromecast or a $150-200 TV
Or we can just optionally have everything on one device.

If your TV is old enough to not have that kind of services, I almost doubt it has an HDMI in /s
