My XBX1X came just after 9am this morning and since then I've had it running and installing GOW4 and fuck me, its still installing and is only at 76%.

I can see before I can play that its downloading over 100GB of data, now this to me is ??? is this an update for 4K or is this MS being retarded and its downloading the entire game plus updates rather than installing the game off the disc and downloading the updates?

Sheeitttt, 100+GB, wow. No worries about when new games will be coming out if they take all day to download.

I guess I'll get XX next year.
Ive read on GOW forums that users have said the game is downloading rather than installing off the disc, i thought id ask here if anyone else can say if this is the same thing because its took all day and it would be a pain in the arse to cancel the download.

Might as well go through with it if it's at 76%+. Maybe there's an option for that or maybe this is M$'s way of screwing people over?

im going to look because i have another game im sure will need installing, going to see if theres a setting to say download rather than install because if GOW4 really has an update over 100GB that really takes the piss.

or if its the 4K update with HD textures, or is it forcing the download of gears 1,2,3 that i already own on disc.... fuck knows but its taking the piss to have a new console and spend the entire day watching the fucker download an update.

this was the reason i got sick of the first XBX1 that i had, sick of seeing it update and have to sit and watch before i could play.

I took delivery of a Scorpio Edition yesterday, the GoW4 and Halo 5 4k assets are huge, will end up with mandatory external drive at this rate.

Streaming is the future, if that's good thing or not is down to preference.

i am a little baffled also that the XBX1X comes with a 1TB HDD but a lot of it has already been taken by the OS, after installing GOW4 i have approx 600GB left.

I dont understand why this update is 100GB when textures do not look like theyve been recreated, so for a graphic engine update to output in 4k rather than 1080p is ???, aparently this update was only 15GB, so why is the total install 103GB.

Its stupid because it downloaded 103GB so whats the data on disc for?

And why cant it simply install the large data to the HDD for faster loading and work in conjunction with the disc to save HDD space.

I was under the impression that both the ps4 and xbox one don't read data off the disc at all. All disc content is read from the HDD.
I can honestly say as a gamer not a console fanboy because i own both PS4/XBX1X that i have never in my life had such slow installs that the XBX1 has.

I know some games on the PS4 are slow such as Star Wars Battlefront which pissed me off because it was just an online MP if you played offline was just dumped in a map and run shoot shit the end.

but Gears 4 took from 9am till 2am and now since yesterday been installing Quantum Break and its still installing.

This was the reason i got rid of my XBX1 when it first launched, its power options were stupid, who the fuck tells you if you want your console to instantly turn on its got to remain in standby and have forced updates.

if you dont want forced updates your console will take longer to power up, and you have to sit watching the download/install before you can play.

I was referring to installing data from the disc.

I didnt understand why GEARS 4 update was 103GB, if this 100GB is for MP crap then maybe you should get the chose the update and if you only want the 4K update (15GB) then install that only.

My XBX1 had 1TB HDD, only have 2 games and got just over 500GB left, so i think this whole 4K gaming MS havent considered equipping the console with a HDD thats actually going to allow gamers to have a few games installed.

Probably nothing at this point, at launch i installed from disc and downloaded a 2gig update, which wasn't too bad.

The game has likely changed so much since then the disc is essentially a DRM device saying your allowed to download and play. Last time I checked GTA 5 was almost 70gigs, that's before any 4K update.

thats what im starting to think, the discs are ignored and your downloading the entire game, we know how lazy MS are, theyll think it be easier to download the game with updates already applies so the console itself only has one task.... install entire game.

but if thats the case then its a piss take because not only eating your hdd space but its wasting your bandwidth, time.

and fyi

Quatum Break is now @99%........ started YESTERDAY!!!!

I think in theory for most games (except the launch ones which required a day one update to be usable) you could install form a disc offline and play the game without connecting to live. Patches did used to be quite small, however i think it's just got to the point where the entire game is replaced (or so it seems with the size of some of them).

Tony Hawks 5 is a good example, the game is a couple of gigs and the patch is larger than all the data on the game disc.

You probably never usually notice until installing on a new console, as the Xbox One usually updates games over night when in standby.

yea thats one thing i hate about xbox one is its power options, im sure its deliberate so people are "forced" to accept the option so MS can force its update to you.

if you accept your console turns on faster and updates (i bet) are set priority over not having the console to accept forced updates.

reason i think this is why should it then force your console to take longer to power up if you dont want it to be constantly on and have forced updates.

thing is, regardless if the console is active or not, it is still running and is going to cause wear and tear issues faster, its like having a car with its engine constantly running, not only is it wasting electric but its running for no reason at all.

It took about two hours for Forza 7 to install the 95gb on my dad's Xbox one x (60gb of which were through WiFi for the 4k update, 35gb off of the disc), it just depends on how fast your internet is.

I've heard that regardless of whether or not you have an original xbox one, an s or an xbox one x, every console will be updated with the 4k download. Is this correct???

zomg just got mine this morning and I had the most annoying issue with my new 4k samsung tv. I set my video output to hdmi and apparently that's a big no no and it won't let you use all the 4k features but i finally got it sorted thank goodness. The download sizes are just insane. But in my case the downloads were nice and snippy at least.

if the game has the 4K update, but im getting the impression that the XBX is downloading the game - updates rather than installing the required filed off disc then downloading updates.

i fail to grasp how one game can have a 100GB update when i doubt the 4K update is all the textures remade, its just altering the graphic engine settings as would a pc.... even saying that when you run the game and it first installs it states do not turn off your PC...... erm its an XBX not a PC so clearly this update for Quantum Break has downloaded the PC game.
